Water from the left side - ENIGMA
Hi there!!
I found out that there is an amount of water coming into the trank of the car (port bagazze, where the extra wheel is)...I tried to locate the leakage but no luck...
1. the back lights are Sealed.
2. A new plastic round cover has been installed
3. The antenna has been sealed from the base
4. I sealed the air outs that are on the left and right side of the car
5. The back windows have been sealed with this black materianl (elastic cover)
please help....it it is driving me crazy

In my car the left hinge from the rear window seems to leak. Well, it doesn't seem to leak, it DOES leak... Maybe that's worth checking for you. Go sit on the inside, use a garden-hose and a friend, combine these two and you have a steady big flow you can use to see exactly where the water is entering. Good luck!

My car has developed a leak too, I don't think it's the lights, but I think it's somewhere along the seal along the top of the boot - I haven't seen it leak in normal rain yet, only at the jetwash, so hopefully it's not too bad, but it does need fixing soonish
Out of interest, does anyone know what a new door seal would cost and how easy it is to fit?

Guess what...??? I've got it too!
Spent yesterday sealing the back lights again. I think it was the middle piece this time as it seems to warp and come away from the bodywork, in my care anyway. I suspect its coming in somewhere elso also. Passeger front and rear footwells are soaked.
I'll check those hinges..

A new boot seal (assuming that's what you mean) when I enquired a few months ago, was £42+VAT from my nearest Volvo Spares. I did have a URL somewhere at home (at work at the moment), of a company that supplied all kind of universal trim bits and pieces, and I think I priced up the required length for the boot at under a tenner. When I get home, I'll try and dig out the URL.

It might have been these people, although they don't seem to quote any prices. I'm fairly certain though, that they'll be cheaper than Volvo!

the wheater in greece is stil very nice, compared to here: do the following: put a running hose on the car roof and lock your selves in with tools and flash light. remove the side panels from the inside and go water hunting.
I found water comming from the roof via the C-pillar. sealed the roof rubber (from front to rear window) with bathroom quality silecone.
Its now dry as the desert inside

Remember you can get silicon in all sorts of colours...only make a small cut on the tube and work slow, when you have finished applying the silicon...cough up some spit, put it on your finger, then you can easily tidy up your work. Spit, not water, otherwise the silicon will stick to your finger.

Guess what.
Mine is leaking to.
It`s letting in water true the two air-vents in the back of
the car under the side markers.
And also there are two big hole`s in the bodywork on the
back in the corners behind the bumper due to rust.
I found it when i took of the panels inside in the back.
From the outside it`s not visible.
I hate water in the car

Good morning, merry xmass to all...
Since the last time, I re-sealed all the indicators roundly (perimeter) with a soft silicon spray...I found out that water still coming into the trank..the only think left unsiliconed is the plastic where the key is located (to open the back door)...
If for any reason after the siliconed key is coming into, then i will have to admit that my 480 was buit to be used as a sub480...
anyway finger x ....will update soon...
kingrichy as for the air events on the back of the car, they are used to decrease the air pressure in the cabin when u close the passenger doors..in years they are loosing their plastic stregth so there is a serious amount of water coming into the cabin..u need to replace them (if u find them as new parts) or seal them (thats what i did@)....in order to seal them u need to remove the back bamber and the internal plastic covers....the left air event is under the antenna´s actuator so be careful with the wirring there......
good luck
will update the sooner

what did finally solve your idle problem, I mean there must have been more causes, but what did it ?
I had water comming from the roof. the rubber that seals the roof, running from front to rear window on the outside of the car, beneath a panel and the side doors, It wasn't sealing.... I sticked it invisible to the roof. My car is tested and dry.
How was the garden hose test ?

Hi volvofox.......
Idle problem solved 4 months ago using ur posts on idle regulator valve and from my mechanic who opened the engine and re calc the valves..so on...also by changing the OHM values on the air mass flow etc....too many things at once....also it has been better when used new lead cables and the new 4 pin plugs by Bosch....but the real change came when I started using 100 octane BP unleaded..to be honest it is not the 100 octane that made the difference, but the quality of the fuel since here they do not dare to mix the high performance fuel with other lower quality benzine...yes its true, if u ever drive in Greece for summer use only high octance benzin, not 95 or the usual fuel cos in order to make more money they mix it with not leaded fueling...
as for the leakage, i decided not to sell my beuty so soon it will go for re-painting....therefore they will remove everyhing from the inside they will reset the windows using new sealing, and they will ref-fit the inside plastics ....so a new car, since the engine is working good....the car will go for painting in the mid jenuary, therefore not any other leakage tests since it is impossible to find fpom where the water is coming into...

than I anyway would advise to do this water test. new sprayiong , new rubbers etc will not solve it, unless they renew the special 480 roof rubber too (thats were mine leaked, I saw water coming from the C column inside, behind the panel..) It would be a pitty that you invest so much and the car still leaks.
Let us know about the colour, and eh... pictures please!!!

by column, he means the "pillars" that hold the roof of the car up.
So the windscreen pillar is the "a" pillar,
The one in the middle that the door shuts against is the "b"pillar, and the one at the rear of the car, that the boot shuts on is the "c" pillar.
Hope this makes things clearer?
Chris
