Leather door trim

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Leather door trim

Post by martinholmesuk » Thu Dec 18, 2003 4:15 pm

Hello!

My leather trim which is on the doors keeps falling out of the holes.
I keep putting it back but the holes just get bigger so it all falls down again.

I need a way to keep them up. Ideas?

Is your car in some way linked to mine? You heater matrix dies, so does mine, your door trim starts falling out, so has mine :cryhard: - my holes are also too large for the threaded clip, but I also have one broken trim clip - for the non broken one I was just going to pop insulating tape to make the threaded bit a tad bigger so it'd hold...
:?

Sounds like our 480's are linked. :scared: It's just good news that we both have working heaters! I fear your alternator is going to brake next

I thought about screwing the things down! They really piss me off when they fall off. Also my door squeaks!!! HELP! :badmood:

No I had my altenator replaced a year and a half ago :(...

My drivers door has lost it's "staying open" ability, and the speaker has just stopped working too...

Good job I'm going to replace the bloody doors...

To hold mine up i used rolls of of velvro tape.

U use one roll on the door panel and the other roll on the trim panel that keeps falling off.

Holds the trim panel on but still allows you to take the panel off should you need to get to the screws behind it.

Yep, i use velcro too... Happens if the panel has been removed too many times for whatever reason..

Wrap loads of PTFE tape around the pin, to make it bigger. force it in, and hey presto.

I have used a big dot of 480 tool number one : silecon, to stick the panel. Can be removed too.

think of a nice solution, get some of this "klit" tape and glue it on (like the sides of the mat to the tunnel (don't know the english)

I had the same problem, first i tried to solve by using velcro but found out there was a small gap because the velcro is thick.

Then i got the final solution, use the butyl kit sold by the dealer on a roll. (the same partnumber as the stuff used to seal the backlights.)
Just put a blob here and there and push tight into position. Never been loose again and you can still remove the cover when required.
I also used it on the rear speaker covers, because my bass blew them off and that also survives.

now hold on, i am sugesting no tape at all. You see klit everywhere. also on the mats in out car. (maybe i am not translating right?)

like renter i use a sealant as glue. its perfect, noise absorbing and can move a lot before cracking or loosening : Bathroom silecone

i feel rooling tape or something around the "plugs" is real crap. (sorry)
luck,

Hi Kirsty,

This is one we covered early this year.

If you look at the bottom of your door card. The bit with the handle and pocket on. You will see some plastic clips that the card sits on. It is fairly straightforward to lift the card off these. Then spray the clips with WD40 and push the card back on. Voila! silent door.

Regards

Chris
