Arch restorations
My new turbo has quite a bit of rot on the arches. As far as I'm aware, the only way to get rid of the problem is to cut it out...
I've also heard that blasting might work for quite some time.
Has anyone got some good tips on fighting the rot?
Also, If I'm going to cut the arches, I was considering the idea of flared arches. Has anyone done this? Pictures would be welcome.
Thanks

Did anyone already tryed to repair rear arches using ... front arches !
Ex : cutting out of a spare front-left pannel the wheel arche to replace a rusty rear-right arche. And thus, the front-right pannel could be used for the rear-left arche. Did anyone already tryed ?
I had a look and it seems that they should match ... but I'd rather be sure before starting to cut .

I love it when one of your old posts gets resurrected... I'd completely forgot I wanted the rear arches flared!!! (So many other jobs start taking presidence over bodywork )
Thanks for reminding me, the work in progress looks promising on those pics.

That's the way it should be I guess...LANTIN wrote:Just don't want to open a new post for every single question I have ...
I just thought I better point out that I hadn't restart the thread, incase the posts were aimed at me.

This is a repair using a Volvo 400 series rear wheel arch. Luckily most the rot was at the rear of the wheel arch, where there is plenty of steel. I cut the inner and outer arches back, joddle an edge on the new panel, slide it between the existing panels, then weld from both sides. Doing it this way, hopefully means less filling. The rear section of the srch wasn't right and had to be sectioned to make a nice fit. The screws are just to secure it while welding.

It's a work in progress at the moment. I did managed to but a slight buckle in the quarter, much to my annoyance. I'll have to let it cool more between welds when i do the next side. I intend to finish the filling(nearly there now), and then do the other side which isn't so bad. The side shown, needed repairs to the inner wheel arch/closing panel of the sill, and lower quarter where the rear bumper hides. Oh and the steel panel behind the bumper is completely rotten as well Hoping my mate will check the filling over, and then spray both quarter's.
It's now got a better set of alloys on as well, due to a cheap ebay find, as the originals where scruffy to say the least.
