I had them in my 440 GLT. I dont know about the 480 but everything is pretty similar in the 400 serries so you probaly could.
The flashing warning light is in the back or the drivers arm rest though and you would have to wire in the seat belt clips that have the sensors in them.
I think it would a bit of a challenge though................

Its very similar but i dont know if the 480 has sensors in the seat either. The more i think about the hard it becomes. There might some stuff about in the haynes book of lies.
And the warning light is just smaller light like the one in you glove box but a differant cover but you could wire it anywhere you wanted.

I dont know how to explain it............
I the think the 480 would have the "brains" for it to work but i dont think it has the sensors.
As for the warning light is just a small bulb that flashes, there is just 2 wires conected to it. There is nothing special about that side of it.
I hate trying to put things in to words, i need to buy a digital camera!!!

Hi Strangegame,
There are two methods of having seat belt warnings. The type that always buzzies when you turn on the ignition for a given period of time and the type like in our 480's that will buzz until the DRIVER puts his seat belt on.
The drivers seat is the only one with a sensor - wait for it some one will tell me that is wrong! So let me re-phrase 'in the UK every 480 I have ever seen only has a sensor on the drivers seat'. The installation process would probably be very straightforward. Go to a scrappy and remove two sensors from two drivers seats and the corresponding bit from the seatbelt anchorage. Or find out how much the sensors are from Volvo - not necessarily a lot of money.
I am guessing that the installation will be simple and the wiring up will be simple probably requiring paralleling the wiring from the drivers seat. But and this is a big BUT, I and I think a lot of others on this site would strongly recommend not touching the electrics on the 480. It is of course a minefield and once disturbed you could end up with the mess I have in my Celebration because someone who did not know what they where doing fiddled around with the electrics:

I am not for one moment suggesting you do not know what you are doing, just the 480 has to have the worst electrics of any car ever produced. Elsewhere you will see I have been buying up brochures and magazines. In one article I read last night in 89', 'Motor' where so appalled by their 480 which they had from new that they where pleased to be getting rid of it. This car was not even two years old and had received a long list of repairs of which the majority where electrics.
I myself owned an 89' 480 in 90' and had to strip the dashboard down to repair it then.
Whatever you do I am sure it will be fun, but have another car at the ready because it may take you a loooong time!
Regards
Chris
