Interior Light

The interior light on my 1990 ES turns on when the driver's door is unlocked or when the passenger's door is open but not when the driver's door is opened. I haven't managed to find a switch in the door frame on either door so can only assume that the light comes on by magic and the magic is failing on the driver's side! Does anyone know where the door opening light switch is on the driver's side?

I believe it is actually in the lock/catch

That would explain why I can't find it. I'll pull the lock apart at the weekend. Thanks Mat

its on the lock, and there is also one on the doorgrip. remove the doorpanel. check switches, and connectors. No joy : check the cem/and its connectors. also the big A pillar connector(the wrapped in foam one)

but a few diagnostic questions.

does the light go on as you lift the doorhandle on a unlocked door ? (or was it only for the illuminated lockhole?)

Does the light go on as you unlock (with key only) the locked driver door ?

do you have alarm problems ?

The best guide in this is the downloadable e-schedule (thx.dragon)

The light goes on when I unlock the door with the key but not when I lift the door handle not when I open the door from the inside of the car - if I unlock the door, the light comes on but usually goes out before the door is closed.
I've got no idea whether I have alarm problems or not which probably means I have! I have never looked into the alarm system and have never heard it trigger (this is probably opening a new can of worms for me - Oh goody, goody!)

no, its the same can, just another wurm.

the interior light and the alarm work on the same switch. See page 42 on the downloadable e-schedule (thx. dragon)

I must correct and be more clear: the doorhandle swichs is involved in this, not just for the light in the keyhole, but also over the CEM to turn on the light.

read the MaP, as a route to solve your problem(electrical schedule)

My best guess is to test the switch, the wires, the connectors in the door and on the CEM.
