Air vent covers

Just a question really - under the bonnet, near the top (so under the
windscreen wipers), there are 2 air inlets, one on each side, they are triangular in shape - I have owned 3 480s to date, and on all 3, the left side one (as you look in the bonnet) has a cover, but the right side one does not - I have taken this to be normal (is it?), but I can't figure out why one is covered and one is not? Discuss.

Asked myself the same question ... and wondered if due to this water could damage the ventilator (Through the not covered air inlet (right) you can see the ventilator - which is sometimes very noisy...)

I would guess at alternate positioning for blower moter for left / right hand drive beauties.

Am I missing something here, or is the triangular bit on the left (looking from the front on a RHD car) not the Relay compartment?

... or have I lost the plot!?

Could be... I think it's me that lost the plot

- Thats because I've never needed to access the relays on my 480s, so I thought (as it was the same shape in the same place) it was another air inlet - can't double check on my car though, since it's at Volvo atm...
