My windows mist up.

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

My windows mist up.

Post by martinholmesuk » Thu Oct 23, 2003 8:31 am

This is driving me crazy! When I went and met Dragon/Fnord my front window kept misting up.

Today I came home from Canada, I got in the car and it was fine all the way down the road and then it mists up and i can't see for shit so I pull over and wipe the windows.

5mins later the windows are misted up. I turn the heat on no change so I turn the cold on and no change.

What am i doing wrong?

Usually takes about 5 minutes on hot, highest power to clear the windscreen. It will steam up again if you breath on it or cough on it. Maybe you are sitting too close? The idea is to keep the surface of the window the same temp as the inside of the car.

Normally, when the windows mist up for no aparent reason , it can be an indication that water is getting into the car somehow. I used to find that my previous car would always mist up in the winter, but I knew that the window seals were not particularly good, and the foam sound deadening under the carpet used to soak up the water and it would get trapped there and never really dry out.

My mum's car also gets quite damp inside (sunroof doesn't appear to seal very well), and also mists up very easily.

My 480 though, on the other hand, doesn't ever seem to mist up, and I put it down to good seals around the windows/doors/sunroof/boot (and rear lights!). I know you knew all about the 480's seal/water related problems before you bought this one, and probably cheecked it out thoroughly, but you might want to take a second look.....

Mine have started doing the same as yours martin, in the same places too... I used mr muscle glass cleaner on it recently and since then, the problem with misting started - I think it's left a film that's incredibly easy to mist and hard to clear - gonna try cleaning the glass really well at the weekend without chemicals maybe, to see if it helps...

You could try vinegar on newspaper its supposed to clean glass really well with no smears. Dont know what you do about the smell though.

Just Newspaper and water is good also.
Though I tend to use a little detergent in warm water, clean with a sponge, and then buff window with a clean linen cloth

Works for me.

There is also a 'Carplan' Glass polish which is great stuff, if you can find it.
It doesn't smear with wiper blades either.

Have you had the A/C on this should clear the window a treat. But if there is a problem with your A/C this might be retaning water instead of venting it out side. On out Toyota Townace if you run with the A/C on and then Turn it off but leave the heat on the windows mist up. It appears the A/C matrixs retains some water which just like your tumble drier comes out as condensation. Hope you get what i mean, and hope this is of some help.

The air con is not used very much lol. If I have the cold on and then turn it to hot (without aircon) I got loads of fog out of the vents and it look like i'm on fire.

now that's scary - in the past 2 weeks, my car has also started to emit smoke/steam from the vents if you turn the heat on - also if you stop at traffic lights and turn the fan off completely the same smoke/steam starts to slowly emit from he vents...

Has your car passed something nasty to mine mate?! ;)
