Vibration

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Vibration

Post by royhedger » Sat Apr 20, 2024 7:30 pm

I have had the dashboard out today to try to stop some annoying rattles. I've managed to stop all but 1, the worst one unfortunately.

When I pull away I can feel a slight vibration and I get a vibration noise, it stops when I get over 10mph, and only happens when I'm pulling away.
Sometimes I think I can feel the vibration through the steering, but other times not.
The vibration noise seems to be coming from deep inside the dash, from behind the clocks, and behind the air duct which sits behind them.
I drove the car with the clocks out and held the steering column whilst it made the noise but I couldn't feel anything, or damp the sound.

It's driving me mad. Some people wouldn't notice it or bother about it but I like everything to be just so.

Any suggestions please?

Random thought; how’s your engine/gearbox mountings?

I haven't checked them Jeff, I don't really know how to.
Could point me in the right direction please?

a quick easy check is to see if the ally heat shield above the rear mount has been 'savaged' by the upper mounting bolt, or you can try lifting the back of the engine to see if daylight appears around the mount, this latter option is more scinetific way , but th eformer is a good indication that all is (not) well

Don't forget the torque reaction gas strut... if that's original that's guaranteed to be knackered!

Hi Jay-Kay-Em. .

I have already replaced it but if I remember rightly it was clearly one which had been returned to stock so may have had an issue from new. I'll have another look at it

I'm leaning towards a faulty CV joint at the moment. Is there an easy way to check if they're in their way out?
