Import costs for Skandix Rear Wheel Arches?

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Import costs for Skandix Rear Wheel Arches?

Post by Martin Mc » Tue Jan 11, 2022 7:20 pm

Hello folks and a happy new year to all Wedgeafficionados :D

I'm looking to get Nilani's rear end sorted out over the winter, ahead of a respray and recommissioned in the spring. I was wondering if anyone had recently (post Brexit) ordered parts such as the arch replacement panels from Skandix and, if so, how much the import cost was on top of the (exorbitant) €167 plus shipping they charge?

For those who don't know her, Nilani is a lovely 95 Celebration (#467/480) with around 50k miles and a chequered history... in her new lipstick and rouge I am. Sure she would be a head Turner at upcoming meets. Plus, once restored, I plan to use her as my daily driver for a while, to gauge how practical a classic she really is

Any insights welcome, even ones that bring tears to my eyes :cryhard:

Cheers!

Hi Martin,

We recently (ordered November) imported an outer arch for Eva and an inner one for our bodyshop to use on a Vauxhall Lotus Carlton (it happens to be a very close match which they discovered when we needed inner and outer for Al's GT.)
Our shipping charge was only 36 euros, so maybe they've hiked the price to cover the extra paperwork, or maybe your 176 euros includes all the import fees ? I'd suggest you query it with them.

The total goods came to 277.31 euros, shipping made it 313.31 and the import fees we had to pay to the courier were £85

Thanks for your speedy and helpful reply, Sylvia :)

So, in total, it would be (for 2 arches) 167 Euro x 2 = 334, plus 36 euro (shipping) and circa £85 (100 Euro) import duty, or 470 Euro in total. Phew! That is a lot of money, even before getting the arches fitted...

Will have to start saving the pennies, methinks :)

Just a thought - Is the old rumour about front wings being a decent pattern for rears true? Fronts often pop up on the bay.....

I've held a front wing up to the rear arch and I think the curve is shallower at the front.

I used a front n/s wing to repair a o/s rear. It wasnt too bad, the lower part works well at the sill though I cut a small piece out as it was longer.

There will be photos on the blinky thread. i am just a hobbyist a pro would probably make a 1st class job of it.

I did this about a year ago, took a lot of welding and repair work.
I decided to get the rear wheel arch for the Volvo 400 as the cost is hugely different and make it work. I had to do a bit of panel beating to get the shape as our 480's have a bit of a ledge at the rear to where the bumper goes, but it worked and I'm fairly happy with the results. It needs more work sanding, better paint, etc, but this was before winter to get it at least sealed and protected.

I ordered from Skandix in October 2020, costs were:
Repair panel, Wheel arch rear right Volvo 400 29,24 EUR
Window winder right Volvo 400 109,92 EUR
Subtotal: 139,16 EUR
Standard (Shipping to EU-countries): 22,00 EUR
Grand Total: 161,16 EUR
incl. VAT 20%: 26,86 EUR

There were no other import charges to pay, not sure if that's changed any further now though, sorry.

I've done various videos on the progress, the main one with the sanding and finalisation of the rear driver arch is:

(The rest are in playlist on my channel for volvo480 which includes the raw arch, metalwork, welding, etc)
