Bulbs for instruments
Hi all,
I'm looking at replacing the bulbs in a few dash instruments as most seem to have died.
The oil pressure/voltage dial cluster uses 3off 966326-1 according to the parts book (which is the same as those used on in the majority of the info. cluster).
I'd just like to confirm its this type before I buy a bag load (12V 1.2W).
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Osram-2351MFX6 ... B00O87S67U
Would anyone know if the LCD clock and heater controls also use a similar bulb as I can't get to it now for a few weeks. The parts book doesn't show a replaceable bulb for the clock but shows 2off 942327-8 for the heater controls (again 1.2W as far I can ascertain).
Cheers.

Re: Bulbs for instruments
Correct bulbs for auxiliary gauges, analogue clock and warning lights in panel, yes.
I think it's the same bulb in the digital clock but don't have one myself any longer...
If you replace the actual illumination bulbs in the main instrument panel, make sure you use 3W wedge bulbs and not the (virtually identical looking and easier to come by) 5W bulbs - you'll have melting problems with 5W! There are three bulbs plus the info centre halogen bulb.
Good luck!
David

Re: Bulbs for instruments
A bit late response to this topic...
The warning bulbs in the instrument cluster rarely burn out, except for the "lights on" (green light bulb symbol) and maybe the oil pressure (oil can) and charging (battery) warning lamps, but I rarely change them, only if they really look black. Both analogue and digital clock use one bulb and the auxiliary gauge cluster uses three.
There used to be a cheap source for B10d halogen bulbs (the one for the instrument cluster) in the UK, but they are currently out of stock:
https://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/r6412 ... -base.html
For the other three T10 bulbs in the instrument cluster, indeed as David says, use 3W (W3W) bulbs, otherwise the plastic will melt in time.
I have all bulbs you need for € 10 + P&P, I always buy them in big lots through eBay and then distribute them among the poor
BTW: while you are busy taking out the instrument cluster and gauges, take the time to replace the small T5 bulbs, there are 7 hidden in various places in the dashboard. This one will buy you enough: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-Neolux-1 ... 1411511121

Robert,
What do these bulbs light in the dash? Are they just background lighting?
Thanks.

The T5 bulbs are the small wedge bulbs that light up:
- the light switch/fog-light switch pack;
- the heater controls (2)
- the heated seat/long-range lights switch symbols
- the ignition switch
- the ashtray/cigarette lighter
That accounts for 6, and Robert says there are 7 - I certainly don't want to argue with him, but personally I have no idea where the other one is to be found!

Re: Bulbs for instruments
The seventh bulb is hidden inside of the ventilation fan switch but it’s not easy to replace as it’s not in a socket but it is soldered with some thin wires.

Re: Bulbs for instruments
I have never had to replace a bulb inside the ventilation switch, but it is the same kind as found in car radios. Indeed soldered with thin wires.

Re: Bulbs for instruments
Inside the hazard light switch is the seventh one, it should have a lower wattage but it doesn't harm. It will only light up the red hazard triangle a little brighterdcwalker wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 5:07 pmThe T5 bulbs are the small wedge bulbs that light up:

(I should replace all seven of those bulbs in every 480 I own, by the time I have bought my seventh 480, it must have magical electrical powers! )
