Hi All,
Am I right in thinking water from the sun roof makes its way out the car down a gutter that runs down the rear metal pillar (to the side of the hatch) and out in that little pocket behind the boots plastic storage boxes?
I ask because this is the rusyest bit of my 480, and I dont have a sun roof!

rear drains, where does the water come from?

On my old 480 with sun roof I cannot remember seeing any draining holes in the list around the sun roof. From what I know the sunroof should be leak free, and I haven't had any big problems with water coming in on that car in the rear.
But on my current 480's the sealant around the rear light and the cable pass through in the top of the rear hatch leak into the back of the car.

but if rusty, remove the foam pads from the air vents area

How its gets out, is via this little hole...
So, you're viewing the "pocket" from the point of the view of the airvent - Obviously, the air vent is removed. This is the drivers side.
At the front of the pocket you can see the drain hole. Underneath the pocket, you can see the plastic shelf that holds the utter evil and stupid foam pad, AKA the rust maker.
The drain hole can become blocked with dirt, that's collected in the foam pad, from dirt thrown off the road wheels and into the rear bumper area.
So, step one, remove the foam pad (its a bumper off job)
step two, make sure your drain holes are clear.

Thanks for the tips guys, I will certainly purge the foam!

'can' = 'will'
I thought that you could remove the foam pad from below with a bit of brute force?
any way the drains on mine were not too clever and as they are not really at the 'lowest point' . . . . . .

I'm thinking of making a fiberglass 'pannel-cum funnel' to go in this area, and just chop out any of the surviving metal that may be in this area, any idea of the dimensions so I can perhaps stick it in place from the underside?
