3d printed spare and repair parts

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Greetings Everybody,
bit lost about who's doing what with 3D printed items.
I could use the following 3D printed items:
2x repair kit for window operating mechanisms,
1x L/H & 1x R/H DRL lens covers - I like the look of the ones Ortovox77 is developing.
6x door trim clips (the round ones).
Can anyone supply and how do I pay?
Just a thought - would it be feasible for somebody set up a supply point in the UK?
Thanks.
Hi Yorkievolvo,
Sorry for late response.
I currently have little time over to make and sell the parts I create and since I live in Sweden shipping probably would be more expensive that using the printing services referred to in the thread.
https://www.shapeways.com/create
https://www.3dhubs.com/
My goal is primarily to share what I do and hope it can help other 480 owners, so as soon as I'm satisfied with something new I have created I will put it up on my account here https://www.thingiverse.com/Ortovox/designs it is free to download and can be used on the service above.

About the DRLs I have not had time to finish them and not sure if the result will be good enough in the end.

Greetings Jonas,
I understand that your time is rationed and you've got other things to do.
I was just wondering if somebody could take up (had taken up) the baton and could help.
Thanks for the work you've already done and, if you do manage to get the DRL lens covers developed, you can be assured a pair will be installed on my car very shortly thereafter.
Best Regards,
Mike H

I have actually re-done the knob recently so that it is closer to the original with the correct hole size for the led that is smaller than my original model.
I think it look little better overall.

Hehe ok Jeff :)
I have actually made some other stuff recently and uploaded to my account at Thingiverse (site seems to be slow for the moment).

Volvo 480 - Grill mount repair: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4299095

Then Jeff gave me some challenges
Volvo 480 - ventilation direction clip (all sizes): https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4293941
Rear ABS cable clip: not uploaded yet but looks like this(my remake in white)

Rear boot lid clip: I actually finished it yesterday Jeff ;) not uploaded yet

I also created this project board that is open for anyone to add suggestions of what to make for the Volvo 480 and to see progress.

Hey Guys,

Thank you to all the 3d printer experts out there! Your skills are a god-send to the classic car community - especially those from the 80's as there is so much irreplaceable plastic on them!

I have checked out all your stuff but I still need your guidance.

I have purchased the optional extra 480 Graphic Equaliser EQ-6117 but it is missing a button sadly.

To find & buy another EQ just to steal a button is unrealistic. Can the 3d printing community help?

I know there might be a significant cost involved and I probably need all seven buttons replacing for consistancy - but its worth it in my mind :bla:

Perhaps drop us a PM - I could post a button as a template?

All the best and amazing work. Best Regards; Jay.

Nice unit!
No problem, I can model this button if you send me some measurements. But for printing, SLS resin 3D printing is a better choice in my opinion.

Hey, having recently caught the "wedgie-fever" looking for one I stumbled across this forum and subsequently this thread.
Owning to many 3D-printers for my own good I want to offer my help to anyone needing any kind of printed part (plastic, resin, flesxible, multi-color/-material, highly detailed or whatever).
I could also do modelling/CAD for parts although I cant measure them myself.
Hopefully ill soon be printing v480 parts for myself too.

Best Regards
Kira

Hi Kira,

Welcome to the forum!

You may regret that offer.... I now have a 3D .stl file from Bray.... this is for the 480 Equaliser slider knob.

If I send you the drawings, and you pop the printed item on eBay i'd gladly purchase for your time. Here's hoping...

I'll send you a PM.

PS - there is no cure for wedgie-fever

You'll find yourself with LOTS of 480 friends with a post like that!

I'd start by doing headlamp hinges and heater buttons - they're the usual high demand ones!

I don't mind making friends or printing those for someone or a few and shipping them to someone in the UK as a kind of supply point if Ortovox77 and Bray are okay with that.

But in regards to eBay, I can't put a print of someone else's model on there since I don't own a license to it and can't make my own model since I don't have a v480 to measure from.

Best regards
Kira

Nooo, wasn't suggesting eBay. But if members know there's someone on here that can print them for them, you made start to find a steady stream of PMs!

My apologies. I mean to reply to Jay-Kay-Em about eBay. Its been a while since I've used a forum :)

Anyway if someone is curious this is what the parts look like from the printer. The white discolorations are just where I removed supports and can be sanded/polished away of lacquered over. Models are by Ortovox77.

Hi Kira

I only mentioned eBay as it is a safe and secure way to pay for your time and materials to print a button.

I can always paypal off ebay for your time / materials.

If your offer stands, how do I send you an ".stl" file of the EQ button?

Bray has kindly drawn an STL from my measurements and given permission to use the file, but unfortunately cannot print for me.

I have sent you a PM to prevent publishing any email addresses public.

Really appreciate your help.

Jay.

Hello all,
I had a cracked front seat bakrest knob and so decided to ask a friend to 3D print it. It came out too tight everywhere (both on the knob side and where it is supposed to sit on the metal axis). So I have come up with a (temporary?) very, very easy fix: I bought a few 9 mm O-rings and... it works:

https://ibb.co/vjSs3SW
https://ibb.co/yVRPkZ3
https://ibb.co/4sK4BYn

I have not glued them on (yet), but perhaps this might then be a quite permanent solution to the problem...
Just got my first 480 (August 2020)!
1990 ES 1.7, Superwhite
I have ticked off around 45 items, cosmetic and mechanical
Remaining:
- Vibration at 1500 RPM (hard to locate)
- Rough idle (harder one)
- Touch-ups
- Change rims (Pollux to slightly fresher Atlas)
- install my “new” flawless door pocket
I also just bought a 2004 XC90.

Sorry, just to be clear... What I asked my friend for was not the whole knob, but the repair part mentioned earlier, which is a kind of 2-3 cm long tube.

Just a little success story of how 3D printing can save your world and how it is revolutionary to the classic car scene.

I bought this optional 480 graphic equaliser (EQ-6117) on the basis that a) it probably doesn't work and b) it had a missing button.

I am fully open to criticism that this is going in my dash "for show" but i'll take that beating

Image

First of all measure and badly draw your item in MS Paint...

Image

@Bray for an amazing 3D model as an *.stl file....

Image

@Kira for then modelling the button in dual plastics to obtain the stripe...

Image

Legends amongst us. It will sit in my dash with pride.
