Towbar approval

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Towbar approval

Post by AleksanderHugo » Sat Jun 09, 2018 10:26 am

Hi,
I recently purchased a towbar (tow hitch). It’s not a Volvo one, but from an aftermarket supplier. It needs some sand blasting and painting, since it’s covered in rust. Nevertheless, I think I will get it installed without a problem.

However, I am a bit concerned with getting it approved. Does anyone know if I need to show any documents to get it approved? Or MOT (Bilsyn in Denmark) just looks at the actual installation? Perhaps someone have experience with adding an old rusty towbar to their 480s? :)

can't comment on your rules, in the UK tow-bars made/fitted after a certain date MUST have type approval.

and also the inspection was a visual one ONLY, but times move on . . . .. . .

if it picks up on the bumper mounts, check the quality of your bumper steel!

but what that date is I can't say, probably around 2000? previously to that you could 'knock' up your own one . .. . . . .

so given that they were never built after that date ? ?? ?
