Front Bumper Rubber Pads

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Front Bumper Rubber Pads

Post by zapcity » Fri Jun 01, 2018 10:23 am

Having stripped down my front bumper for painting, I noticed that the little rubber stick on pads (square ones at the front, round ones at the side) that sit between the bumper and the nose cone/front clusters were all missing bar one.

I've now sourced some replacements, but am not sure in which positions they are fitted.

Surprisingly, I don't have a spare 480 at hand to reference, so could someone kindly post a couple of pictures of their bumper, then I can see how many and where they are positioned.

Thanks for any help.

Sorry to bump, but would anyone have a picture of a front bumper showing the position of the rubber pads.

Not really sure they do much, but would like it to look right when it goes back on.

Thanks. :D

I'll try and sort some photos for you when it stops raining!

There are three square ones along the front, one in the centre and two near the auxiliary lights. The round ones sit just inside the indicator units, at the "corner" and then a couple down each side.

You are right that they don't do much - the front square ones do help hold the nosecone, but I must admit that this car is the first one I have had which still had the round ones under the lights, and given how rare it is for the lights to sit square and flush to the bumper sides I don't think they are particularly crucial.

Wow. Blazing sun here.

Thanks David. Much appreciated.

I don't think panel gaps were that crucial in the'80's!!

Yes. The little rubber jobbies that stick around the edge of the bumper.

Quick measure up and easy to find on ebay: -

Just need to know where to stick 'em (be kind!!).

Fairly sure mine are missing as well so thanks for the info on replacements. So now I’d like to know where to stick them as well. Ohh vicar.

My front indicators always seemed a bit wobbly, I think I need these!

Are these the square pads you mean? In the middle and near the light cluster? It appears I am missing one too though next to the other light cluster!

Helpful picture. Thanks.

BIg square ones - In the middle and one each side.

Little round ones - inside the indicator units, at the "corner" and then a couple down each side. Thanks DCW.

I bought 20 of each for about £10. Handy for other stuff though.

Turns out I did take some pictures of my bumper (and the pad positions) pre-painting after all.

Found them on my tablet not on the mobile. Think I'm losing it slowly!

Anyway, there are enough left to work out the original positions, although I bet the factory didn't use a template. They probably just stuck them on randomly.
