Window Regulator Cable Detached

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Window Regulator Cable Detached

Post by WRDendy » Sat May 05, 2018 2:26 pm

My passenger window is fully open and not going back up again - I've taken the door card off and found the end of the cable from the regulator:

Image

Can anyone give me any pointers on what to do with it? It's still attached to the motor (which is working fine), but I can't work out where it's supposed to attach, or for that matter if something has broken in the process.

Bad timing given the meet in a week's time. Perhaps I'll turn up with a bin liner gaffa taped over the window... :wall:

I tend to avoid facebook as much as possible but in this case I fear I shall have to make an exception...

Another option I'm considering is coming up with a way to prop the window shut for now since it doesn't really need to open as I'm fortunate enough to have working AC. Of course if I do that then no doubt the AC will be the next thing to go wrong... :badmood:

I think that's the end that attaches to the slider that goes up and down the rail‎. I'd have thought the plastic has pulled through and unfortunately it isn't  fixable. I've often wondered if the guy who sells plastic bits through Shapeways could help us with this.

Sorry.

Propping a window up is a 480 pro-skill‎... welcome aboard! It will be easier with the regulator out. You have to lower the window a bit to get a bolt out I think. It's a bit tight but not so bad to remove.

Joep repairs them, but its not cheap and it has to go to Netherlands. I know someone with some 480 parts - have already asked him for the fog for you. I'll pm you contact details.

On closer inspection it looks like something has snapped off somewhere as there's broken plastic in the bottom of the door and I can't work out where the cable should attach to loop around so I suspect the bit in question is no longer there as you suggest.

The window itself is pretty firmly stuck where it is so no luck propping it closed either. Looks like I'll have to have a word with the local specialists on Tuesday to see if anything can be done by the weekend. Might end up seeing if I can get a new regulator in time for the weekend and then get the existing one repaired as and when to keep as a spare. Skandix claim to have them as do a few people in the UK, but I'll check the part numbers before doing anything!

If you buy an aftermarket one, the 'comfort' features won't work - window won't close on the key, or open without a finger on the button but that's not really a problem for a nearside window.

Just checked, Joep does a refurb for 60 euros. Postage won't be cheap as they are quite heavy.

First thing to say is if you are going to repair it rather than replace it is STOP PRESSING THE WINDOW BUTTON without the tension the wire will get tangled inside the motor very quickly and make repair much harder.

I’m sure I’ve posted pictures of this but at the moment can’t find them.

I'd forgotten about this handy service he does! Might send my original off to him for repair. ‎

Postage ‎(x2) plus £60 is probably less than a new one. That's be my choice, then you don't mess around getting the wrong size or one that doesn't know how to do the clever close thing.

Know I posted pictures somewhere but quicker to post new.

This is what’s broken.

Image

Although it could be the bit of plastic at the other end.

As it should look more like this, notice the metal repair.
Image

And this is what happens inside the motor when you keep pressing the button as I did.
Image

They are repairable, as above, although I should really have done both ends in metal to stop it happening again.I keep meaning to make a How-To.

Bonjour,

I bought that one from a famous french dealer :
https://www.oscaro.com/mecanisme-de-lev ... 882-1561-p

It works very well, and the 'comfort' features do work, as it's driven by the CEM. Just had to modify the wire to use the original outlet.

Here is a pic of the original compared to the Valeo :

Hi David - I managed to get hold of another one that looks identical to the one you've got, haven't got round to fitting it yet as the window is propped shut with a 2x4, and 'temporary' solutions like that always seem to hang around for longer than intended... :D

Hello, I would like help on how to disassemble the piece that attaches to the glass (where there is the green plastic latch that usually breaks, I can't get it out of the track) and some advice on how to replace the latch with a new one more resistant metal. Are there any repair kits on the market? Thanks.

There is a 3D printed kit available. Have a search on here. It may be listed at Shapeways but it could be some other 3D printer place too.

Someone kindly sent me one but I haven't used i‎t yet.

Here's the part in question: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3140751
Up to you to sort out printing, for example via 3D Hubs or similar.

I have the 3D printed kit but am also struggling to work how to get the slider piece out of the track.

I bought a brand new replacement but its not so well aligned as the original so will try to fix my original one.

Does anyone know how to get the slider out of the track, please? I was in great danger of breaking it.
