A Pillar Removal

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

A Pillar Removal

Post by eye of ra » Sat May 27, 2017 7:18 pm

Does anyone know how to remove the A Pillar Trim?

Green book instructions shows a stupid diagram and says pull. Well I have tried pulling, I have also tried with various trim removal tools on the outside, on the inside and on both sides and it is not moving I really don't want to break it which I think I have come close to doing.

It is just a case of pulling, which is worrying but the trim seems quite robust (for a 480!).

Try starting at the edge nearest the windscreen - there's a bit of a gap and you can get a bit of pull on it there. It clips into place around the metal of the pillar IIRC. Likewise once you remove the rubber trim you can get a bit of leverage under the edge facing the door too. Take a deep breath and be firm with it!!

Well you certainly need to go for broke with the pulling, when it finally came out I thought the sound must be it breaking in two.

Only snapped one of the 9 lugs and the trim is in one piece. Now I can see how it’s fitted and where the lugs are the other side should be easier.

For another day when I can open the door wider and maybe get some new trim tools.

Thanks for the advice.

Glad you managed it - I remember the odd occasions I have done that over the years as being quite alarming!!

Hi,

I'm trying to install a microphone that I want to wire through the a pillar. But it just won't come loose. Managed to get the top loose, that bit above the door. Even with quite some force the trim is not coming loose? I'm afraid to break it. Are there some tips besides pulling really hard?

Regards,

Bram

This is what the clips look like:

You have to pull the trim hard enough to get the dimple out - I wish whatever plastic they used for the A-pillar they used on the rest of the car - It's tough as old boots!
