Hi all
This is the spare wheel well, does this look normal to you? You see the road through the hole on the left (if you look into the boot from the outside as the picture is the wrong way around). There was no rust around or below the rubber at all as I removed it, cleaned it and put back into place.
Best

You only realize that the tailgate gas struts need replacing when that damned heavy piece of glass drops on your head!
At least easily fixed by Ebay

Let condensation out?
You mean rain water?

Perfectly normal looking boot/wheel-well
.
The hole does let rainwater out - obviously in practice from leaks into the boot but the theory was that it is a drain should you put a wet wheel into the well...

Hello all,
I am new to the forum, and to owning 30 year old cars in general. Cleaning up Magnus, I discovered some water/humidity in the boot and in the rear passenger footwell on the passenger side (right side, as this is Switzerland); but that is actually another question.
My question here is, is what I found at the bottom of the wheel well normal?

Indeed on the left there is a drain hole. However, on the right, in the equivalent position, is something which looks decidedly less OEM - a kind of oblong flat piece of metal, now a bit rusty, maybe 10 x 2 cm, surrounded / held in place by some synthetic substance a bit like dry chewing gum (I am pulling a bit at a piece of it on the second photo). If anyone can help identify what that could be, and what its purpose could be, I am interested!

Yep looks normal to me, mine is similar. When you lift up the boot cover there is a lot of that chewing gum style sealant, I'm sure someone on here can give it it's proper name

Ok, thank you for the quick confirmation!
I wonder why there are not just two drain holes, rather than this setup. Maybe there is something sensitive below the closed drain...

If the weather gives me a chance I'll check my car tomorrow to confirm. I am
Nowhere near an expert but it looks the same as my car, but beware that the boot will get water in it as that just happens, so do take that into account!

I wonder if the HUGE flat section was to allow drainage of the shell when it was dipped (if dipped?)
just assumed 'normal'

Yes, the shells were dipped
Somewhere on here is a link to a video showing the workings of the production line in the factory

Alan's suggestion has always been my understanding - plate then stuck in afterwards.
And just to confirm what others have said, NillerGT, that is a perfectly normal looking wheel-well!
Oh yes, and a warm welcome, by the way

quick update, the blanking plate seems to be a piece of super thin ally!! more strength in the wax/sealant than the bit of ally, I was digging around and managed to create a small hole
now fixed
will cover the drain with a piece of 18SWG ally, cos I have some ready crinkle coated
