Front spolier

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Front spolier

Hi all

Is this part made of unobtainium? I assume it cannot be repaired but I welcome suggestions.

Bit of fibreglass would repair that. It's low enough down that a less than perfect repair wouldn't be easily noticed!

Far less damage than mine, and it repaired perfectly.

Did you use a Fiberglass specialist?

I had mine done by the bodyshop, just because the car was in for rusty bits anyway. A diy job needs lots of patience to get the same result. If you do have a go, you'll probably need to respray the whole spoiler if you want perfection, but it's not very visible anyway.

It has to go to the bodyshop for various bits and pieces. So I did think of having them repairing it or having one done by the company listed above and then resprayed.

When it enters the bodyshop stage I will post before/after pics but first I will use a Volvo specialist in Lincoln for whatever mechanical stuff needs doing.

It is an investment after all, right?

I'd go for a bodyshop repair, much cheaper than buying a new one and they can spray it the same colour as the car to keep the originality.
Classic cars are often more expensive to restore than the re-sale value, just depends whether you buy at the bottom of the market and how much work you have to pay for over and above normal running costs. The 480s are starting to go up now, but fashion dictates future values and it's impossible to predict what other people are going to want at some point in the future. Best advice is to have what you want yourself (and the 480s are lots of fun) and consider money spent as a combination of the cost of transport plus the cost of a hobby for your own pleasure. If it turns out to be a good investment, it's a bonus. Far better to spend money on a car that will have a resale value than one that will end up in the scrapyard.

Skip is in a very good condition. My wife calls it Skip because according to her it looks a bit like one :)

52000miles from new and I am the second owner, it only had 3 small "advisory" including a bulb. £450 have been earmarked to have the outside as good as new and the same amount (quite possibly less) for mechanical stuff.

One day they will go up in value but I have seen mention of "future classic" alongside ads for the past 10 years. If that was true how come so many are sold for scrap.

In any case, Skip is here to stay and will even sleep in the garage when there will room. No car had this privilege for 7 years :)
