Anyone know what this bit of rubber is ?

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Found in the heap of gunge covering one of the drains near the windscreen wipers.

Doesn't look like anything I've found - I'll be worrying I'm missing something now! :)

I wouldn't panic too much, in all my 480 exploits over the past few years there's not much of a 480 that I haven't had to bits and it doesn't look like anything I've ever come across, could be foreign. Can't imagine where something like that would live on the 480....

What sort of shore rating would you say the rubber is? ie, is it hard or soft? I'd say if it's hard, it's designed to act as something for AV or to give something mechanical a little give or flexibility, if it's soft it may well be intended as some sort of seal. Not guaranteed in all cases obviously but clues to application can come from how hard or otherwise the rubber is.

Thanks guys. It's just that I have a vague and distant memory of having seen one before. Maybe I'm dreaming, but I have had my es since 2001 so I'm wondering if it looks familiar because I found one in that.
Ade - it is quite firm, probably not a seal, more like an old fashioned rubber door stop. Might have been to stop two bits of metal rubbing on one another, but none of our cars has one fitted anywhere near the drain point I found it in, neither can I see where it might go so I also suspect it's off something else.

Think it`s a bracket 3434289 thk 7 mm , 3415867 thk 9 mm or 4515868 thk 11 mm . Rubber distance between lower edge of a windscreen and body .

Thank you - it's 9mm so I think you are right. Perhaps I did find another one in the other 480 after all !
Next question is - do I need to keep it ?
