Driver's Seat stuck

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Driver's Seat stuck

Post by yorkievolvo » Wed Mar 02, 2016 3:45 pm

The slide mechanism on my 480 driver's seat is stuck, with the seat in the forward position. Has anybody any ideas on how the mechanism can be freed?
Is it possible to remove the seat cushion to get at the mechanism? The seat assembly cannot be removed from the car as the forward bolts are inaccessible.
Any help information gratefully received.

Hi they are usually pretty bulletproof sometimes the seatbelt retainer can drop and jam the seat failing that a good thump may work

two things can cause it to jam
1 something in the runners causing it to stop 5pence pieces are good candidates for this :D

2 the lever does not lift the little latch high enough on each side often it jams on only 1 side.

and yes you can remove the seat cushion but it is a bit of a bind to say the least . thumping wont work on its own that only makes things worse.

figure out which one it is and post back up so we can tell you the next step :D

don't thump too hard, one it will only jam it tighter unless you go in opposite direction to that what stuck . . .

two you might trigger the mechanical seat-belt tensioners,

turn the wee red arrow (under the edge of teh seat material)so points ACROSS the car that way any jiggling will not cause you to lose fingers

I had exactly the same problem and it turned out to be a 50p piece jammed in the runner. My initial visual inspection failed to reveal the problem and it was only when I got in there with a camera and took some photos that I spotted it. Eventually managed to extract it and the seat was as good as new - which is more than could be said for the coin!

Thanks to all for their advice.
As I can't bend, or kneel, down too well, I think the car will be heading to my local garage next week.
Best Regards.

Is "yorkievolvo" a reference to your choice in food, your job, or your location? If the latter whereabouts are you - if you are nearby I'll happily have a look for you.
