Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure

Post by timrosser » Fri Jul 11, 2014 7:24 pm

It really is called that! Its claimed Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure- which is a kind of watery silicone sealent I think- can fill tiny cracks in rubber seals, like forexample around the back of my rear hatch, has anyone tried this?

I've not tried it myself, but it's supposed to be the dog's danglies! ;)

That's strange, I just bought some last week for the boat. I never even thought it might be some sort of saviour for the 480's leaky arse.

Here's some pics so other people can make their mind up if its suitable for them. If the crack/void is really big, obviously you need to use sealant instead or else you'll just pour your Capt. Tolleys down the void,, never to be seen again!

Oh that's good enough evidence for me, I'm going to try on my rear window seals! Will keep you all posted!

If your rear window seals are leaking, as mine were. Just remove them and line the seal with black bathroom sealant and refit. Fixed my leaks.

Slash, your a hard core guy, I might try the lazy crack cure 1st before trying anything brave, how do you take out the windows, do you cut around them with a stanly knife? Completly clueless on this!

Have used exactly this on Lula which fixed the leaking rear light seals. Didn't notice any undesirable side effects over the course of a couple of years but did need to reapply it once (?).

Make sure you have a nice absorbent cloth at the ready in your spare hand for drips/runs, the viscosity of the liquid is very low!

Its about six weeks since I did my rear windows with this- a dry tool & spare wheel gaps so far! Thinking it might be a 480 essential ;-)
