Vandalised drivers side door lock.

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Vandalised drivers side door lock.

Post by Tee » Wed Jul 09, 2014 11:03 pm

Hey all,

My 480 was attacked the other night by some hooigan with a sharpish impliment. It looks like they've jabbed something and given it a good wrench around. Anyone got ideas on the best way to get it fixed?

I've been able to lock and unlock the door a few times, but I think now I am not able to to lock it any longer. I tried for 10 minutes tonight, and it wouldn't budge.

This has been an attempt to break in and maybe even steal your car. Apparently it took the thieves to long, or they got interrupted. They might come back!

you get a replacement lock barrel and if needed levers/latches these small brass latches and are numbered 1 to 4 you then simply remove the plastic backing triangle from the inside of the door remove the retaining clip insert the key into the lock barrel and pull out the lock barrel. Be careful the latches have a little spring underneath them so dont lose any.

I know a man who has spares of these things :D

But first make sure you can remove the barrel and that the actual lock itself is not damaged.

Oh it is a simple job not difficult. :)

I think I'll need a replacement front part of the lock won't I? How will I get one of those?

Jim, exact same thing happened to me about 20 mins ago, heard them outside opened the front door and they legged it, door locks and unlocks fine just the front of the lock got messed up as per pic in Tee's first post... Do you have some bits that will let me repair the damage? I can only assume they wanted the car as panel is off radio and in the house.... Would have prefered they went for my XJ8 parked right in front of it !! :cryhard:
