Drivers side outer door handle defunct

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Drivers side outer door handle defunct

Post by travelman » Sun Mar 30, 2014 9:10 pm

My door handle has suddenly stopped working and it is a real pain opening it from the other side every time.I assume one of the little rods inside the door have broken or come off.Has anyone repaired or changed one of these as advice needed.Does the outer door handle have to come off or can it be repaired by removing the inner panels.
The door opens ok using the inside lever.

I removed one a few years back.
I remember that there was a couple of white plastic clips onto the connecting rods , but if it opens up from the inside I suspect the worst . would need to look out one of my spare doors which infests the shed of maximum density and try photographing for you but I wont be able to do that till tuesday night at the earliest. Perhaps some others on the website may be able to come to your rescue before then.

Thanks Jim. This "suspecting the worst " seems ominous.

Hi Jim-I do not seem to have had any response from anyone else. Perhaps it is an unusual problem. I would appreciate any help you could give me with photos, etc.

It is not difficult to remove the door trim and have a butchers, I've had the plastic clips 'pop-off' on other cars, and with it the door would not open at all to gain access to remove the trim!!! :cryhard:
