Changing the fan speed switch for an earlier one?

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Changing the fan speed switch for an earlier one?

Post by AcidicDavey » Sun Feb 24, 2013 11:05 pm

Evening all!

Strange one here folks, but is it possible to swap the dash control for the fan speed for one that has an 'OFF' setting from an earlier one?

When sat in traffic hearing the fan going away at Speed 1 is annoying lol

Would one with the O on the face actually work/fit ok?

It is easy to convert the aircon switch to a manual with a 0 setting.

I did this for fun a few years ago only takes about 5 mins in total and a small trim with a stanley knife and job done. Too late this evening but will post up a how to some time soon but at present I am backed up with work for most of the week.

Oh and yes the non aircon switch operates ok with an aircon car. In fact the switches are the same apart from a little plastic stop on the rotary switch of the aircon to stop it going to zero position.

Hi Dave

Didn't know about converting the existing switch, but swapped mine over ages ago for the same reason as you.

You just need to remember to turn the fan on when you want to use the aircon, but otherwise it's a vast (and more peaceful) improvement.

Could that be the reason why they made the swich like that, that it has to be switched on when the a/c is on?

I imagine the car blows up with the fan off and a/c on!
