My '89 doesn't have one, but then it didn't have a digital clock either. Another member (whichone) mentioned that her '89 did have a digital clock, so maybe this is the year which several things changed? I'm sure I've seen other '89s at the scrapyard which have had bonnet lights...gerrsvolvo wrote:Not all 480´s have bonnetlights.
The earlier ones had it but I do not know exactly up to what model
year.
I think 1986 to 1988 or ´89 have it.
Later was the opening in the bonnet not there.
Good CEM

Not only did the bonnetlight seem to adorn very few cars, in later models, Volvo removed even the option to fit one - my 1995 480 doesn't have the right hole/recess where the light used to fit on the earlier models - where my 89 ESs had a definate recess at the top where you could fit the light, the 1995 model is just "staright across" if you see what I mean... bah!

Seems really hard to find a decent pic of the underside of a 480 bonnet, so I can't show you exactly, but you'll know what area to look at on the following - basically there's a recess somewhere near the bonnet spring (behind it?) - obviously this is from memory as my car isn't here to double check - if someone wants to take a better photo of theit bonnet, we can show you exactly!

there are even two kinds of bonnet lights. My '88 turbo had a straight clear "dome" by hella, made this way it didn't blind to much, the early ones had even a switch..
switching the bonnet off can be handy, as working on electrics, or loading the battery, but the problem is, there is still batterydrain with the light off, because there is a circuit via the cem towards alarm/door open light.
Be aware the first 480's were the most complete ones... I think of bonnet lamp., grips with lamps above rear seats, digital green timer with stopwatch, weight dependant brake power changer, etc
