whats the quality like, mine are still working but dont seem to like the volume i have coming out of my stereo, i really want to upgrade them all and was thinking of putting a set of 13cm Infinity comppnants in the front, wanted something to match that reallyPeter wrote:I have a pair of rear speakers (for sale).
They simply fall into the rear storages (lying horizontally, filling out the storage totally).

In my first 480 (now I am having my 5th) I fitted two 16/13 cm oval speakers into the rear trims (with some steel cutting and moving away the front seat belt tensioners).
The sound was like sub bass but I do not advise to follow me.
As I remember my original speakers were good enough but only with the original front ones.

Me too, although my last car had the speakers in the storage - aparently the in-storage ones are more sought after, possibly because they give a meatier sound?
Cheers!

They are 6x4 they don't sound as good as the 13 cm speakers mounted in the side at the rear as in later models.
I have both although i haven't fitted the side pocket ones yet till i can find some decent replacements.
Mind you with the amount of Bass myself and Lee push out does it really matter

If you have the side panel rear speakers you can improve the quality of the sound a lot by purchasing some 3M soundproofing selfsticky material.
Its black in color and a bitumen kind material.
Stick the stuff in the compartment behind the speakers and most important stick it around the outside of the flimsy plastic speaker holder.
Now fit the panel with bitumen band for additional support and the bass really comes out a lot better. The resonance of the plastic is gone.
I also put a load of this stuff on the inside of the plastic interior covers, sounds like its made of solid wood now instead of shitty plastic.

Must be similar, the 3M stuff is about 2 mm thick, flexible and you can cut it with scissors. If it is cold it breaks. Any self sticky sound proof stuff will do.
I got it in slabs of 50 cm x 50 cm, for the whole car i used about 12 slabs.
Remainder used for my computer.
For the rear panels you need approx. 4 slabs, if you include covering of the bodywork iwo speakers.

Feel free to try. Let us know the result.
You must maintain some space for condensation and moist to escape from the body cavities. If you foam everything shut you will have pockets and corrosion will happen faster than you think.
This 3M stuff sticks to the panels, making it more robust and less likely to resonate. The pockets behind the speakers are not so bad, they act as a solid chamber. A speaker needs that also for more solid sound.
What irritated me mostly was that at certain freqs i heard the plastic resonate and at other sound levels freq. i got all kind of unwanted sound effects. I solved all that by sticking some sound proofing to plastic and inside the wheel arc.
Rear speaker panels are easy to remove and through the opening you can reach far inside. No need to remove the rear side covers.
