Mad woman makes impulsive decision!
Since one of the reflectors from my already very tatty looking rear clusters popped out and broke into pieces Ive decided to go ahead an get some new ones, I had new one's fitted to my Paris Blue a few years ago after being rear ended (insurance job) and they looked magic and took years off the car. I would have polished them up but I cant find another reflector and you can't buy them seperately, so here goes..........waiting for a quote for the parts. Got my friendly mech guy (Graham at Dave Brydon's in Galashiels) primed to do the fiddly bit, now I know you cant get the sealing strip anymore so what do you reccommend I suggest he uses and any tips on extraction would be greatly appreciated.
cheers

I think this is probalby in the wrong section, but there are that few members logging on theses days

You can get the sealing strips, but they are short sections so you need several per cluster. The go by the same part number and are more expensive than the big roll that you used to get!

Re: Mad woman makes impulsive decision!
I bought new clusters from Volvo and they cost £119 each . They gave me a roll of sticky rubber stuff which I believe they still sell .Once applied to the cluster I pressed it on nipped the nuts up then I used black sealant to fill the gap. Some say you shouln't use sealant as it reacts with the paint but I've had no problems.Oh the Volvo stuff is Butyltejp part number 1161782.

Re: Mad woman makes impulsive decision!
well I emailed the volvo garage back, explained that I would want both rear clusters, always fade, member of the owners club bla bla bla bla etc. and he came back with £125 each, still a lot better than £152 but makes you think where do they get their prices from
what to do?
what to do?

You cant leave that 480 beaut with a broken backside. If you think the cars worth it,save the pennies and go for it.
Be really careful and take time when fitting the new lenses, I used the sealant rubber you get with s/s/sinks which i had spare
then neatly finished with a clear silicon sealant........looks fab on the 480 turbo...

Re: Mad woman makes impulsive decision!
I would't use bathroom sealant. Those contain acid too harden out, regonizable from the bad smell. And you know what acid does to metal! Another problem is that it hardens out, which makes it almost impossible to remove the clusters in one piece afterwards. I would use a non hardening sealant specially made for cars.
