Glove Box

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Glove Box

Post by Mitch » Wed Aug 04, 2010 1:40 pm

Has anyone got a Howto Manual or any info on how to repair the glove box. The door is hanging off on one side because the metal rod that goes through the slidey thing (sorry female alert) has come out. I can't figure out how to get the metal rod back in place. Help :wall:

This is an easy fix take a pair of long nosed pliers or you can use a flat of a screw driver .

close the glove box door line up the 2 halves of the hinge locate the pin and push in it couldnt be easier

Looking at the glovebox as if it's in position the pin can be gently pushed into place from the INSIDE (ie right hand side of the left hinge, left hand side of the right hinge) Don't be tempted to glue it in position. They stay put for years but gradually work loose then fall out. Just push it back in!

Thanks guys. Job done, I knew I could rely on you for the correct info. Here is another one for you:- same glove box, different problem. Where can I get hold of part number 402734. It is the black plastic lever which goes from the glove box lock to the little nodule that actually fits into the box when it is shut. Mine has broken off so will not close. Any ideas? Please don't send me round scrapyards, I'm too old for that! :)

just buy a glove box door from someone who has a few spares ( whistles nonchalantly) and swop the bits around .
Or if you photograph the exact bit you need and post it up here you could buy that instead

a door 2nd hand is £6 including uk postage. the icle bit would probably only be £2 including uk postage. :D

but then again you would need to look for someone with spares 8)

its a bit like the A team ;)

When it stops raining, I will go out to remove door, take apart, photograph *icle bit*, find out how to upload photo then wait to see if bit is available. Something tells me that glasgowjim may just have one! ;) 4 Hours later I've done all that and spent the last 2 hours trying to upload image to my photobucket account but it won't upload. So I'll have to find some other way. Oh.the joy of 480 ownership!
