Mud flaps

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Mud flaps

Post by kev » Mon Jun 30, 2008 12:27 am

Well I looked out and thought what a nice day to put some new mudflaps
on the old girl.
Image

Well I realised this was no five minute job as the screws were rusty so
after WD40 and mole grips out came my slitting wheel !
Then my problems started .The mounting brackets either side were ,
whats the word ...Shagged Got me thinking whats lurking behind the bumper ?
Yep you got it had to find out .
Image

Body work was pretty sound but the brackets were shot

Image

Image

As you can see I now have a hole :badmood:

Also stripped the bumper and the metal part has surface rust but I will
be able to sort that .
Image

Will keep you posted , any suggestions welcome

Looks like youve got off VERY lightly! That bumper bar should be just a pile of rusty flakes.

Yes a lot of flakes fell out from inside .I have been quoted £120 from

Volvo for a new channel so I will decide after I have had a go at treating

it first.

Heres my flakes

Image

So ground it ,rust treated it ,primed and top coated it then waxoiled
the inside . Messy job that.

Image

Should be good to go so sorry Roo I,m keeping it.
Off to Volvo to pick up some new inserts / nuts tomorrow. Also some
new rear discs & pads.
Any advice on fitting those would be welcome.
Oh ,getting that hole welded on friday .Then make some new brackets.

looking good kev ;)
only thing i can note for the rear brakes is the handbrake adjuster could be a lile on the stiff side and maywell need a bit of wd before loosening
as for the adjusting of handbrake i did read a good thread in the how to section ....

Well the vertical brackets are not available from Volvo any more so I
have made a start on making my owm.

Image

Not a five minute job !

The hole is now welded with a plate & the top half of my new bracket
is welded onto that.

Just got to finish the two verts.Bending the edges was fun :D

Done ,ready to go back on .

Image

Looks like there was a big slot in the middle for some reason but that is
where they failed most.

Now I can put my new mud flaps on :D

I wonder if I can convert the old rears to fit on the front ?

Wow, yes, some great work there! I wish i had the time + patience to sort everything on my car. The arches are getting worse every week. I feel a big welding job coming on soon.
