Seats - from other cars?

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Seats - from other cars?

Post by piper1st » Wed May 02, 2007 3:22 pm

Being Volvo 480 owners ... do we have any other seat options other than the obvious (other 400 series seats)?? I mean, can we take seats out of other cars and put them in the front of ours?

I've heard that porsche seats also fit in some VW's etc, so does anyone know if we have any options like this?

Just a thought?

Well I know Cobra Imola bucket seats fit

However from experience with fitting the Imola, the 480's seat rails are different from more "standard" sizes. They are a fair bit (30mm) wider than the Imola's brackets which are designed for fairly standard use. This unfortunately left the seat hovering between the two mounting brackets until I found a way of bending them to fit.

Perhaps seat from other Volvo's may be ok, but volvo aren't really renowned for their amazing upholstery are they?

Current Status: A very impressive track car. :-D

we had a 360 GLE with velour seats which were heavy duty ones. with 20 years of abuse they never tore, only the velour lost some hairs

Thats cos the volvo seats are orthopaedically designed, which is why they are so comfortable, especially in the big ones.

Does anyone happen to have 480 seats out their car and sitting handy? If so, could measure the following for me?

 Distance Between the two rails
 The length of the rails
 The width of the rails

Would be appriciated.

I'm sure someone could help although you could probably get these measurements with some crawling about. :D
I'm currently waiting on a particular model of car coming into the local scrapyard as i think its seats wouls suit the 480 well. should be about the right size too. At the end of the day you can always fabricate new mounts. Its the seat dimensions that are important.
Have you got some seats in mind?

I was hoping for seats which would involve as little fabricating as possible! I'm actually quick suprised that each car (almost) has different rails etc. How come there's no 'standard'? :(

Anyhoo, Vins was saying that seats from a Honda S2000 fit the same rails, not found any others tho ...

These seats are a bitty OTT for the 480 in my opinion, but they do look quite comfy?!

Yeh I think they'd look awesome in a Black Metallic 480, especially if the rear seats were leather too :D

I'm not keen on the integrated headrest type seats. I never liked the ones in K.I.T.T so thats probably where it comes from.

I have an idea for seats but want to measure up and check availability first. It would involve butchering a set of jaquard seats for the material to get the look right though. :D

Nice seats! But I'm install to my Volvo 480 ES RECARO front seats from Opel Omega B, sorry don't have pictures of installed right now. One problem - to enter rear seats you need to roll front seat mechanism, they not from coupe, but I'm never use rear seat for passengers and for me it's OK. REACARO seats is realy wonderful!
