Whats best for really good windscreen clean?

Have got water spots and wiper tracks to remove from the screen. Household cleaners don't work. Phoned a couple of trade specialist's but they went all coy. Didn't want to reveal their secrets, rather suggesting to make an appointment. DUH? Appointment plus 480 means serious money don't it?
One of the grooming outfits said they used water based cutting compounds, but without electric buffing gear it's a hard slog. Any ideas or are the pro guys the way to go?

I also heard half a peeled union in the water should help. And that you could rub the union over the windscreen for the final touch. Don't complain about an unionny-smell though

(haven't tried it, but I believe it could work).

Thank you. No comments regarding water based cutting compound? Might test that on one of the side window. Will advise result.

Joolz is right vinegar in the water will make glass sparkle ; for rubber mars use alcohol (methylated spirits) cleans up all sorts of hydrocarbons , brake discs, removes glues and sticky crap from metal or glass.

The chap who done my arches use's t-cut. Not t-cut/wax, just on it's own t-cut. Thats what i use. Gets all the shite off the screen then a nice soft cotton cloth dampened with a little bit of ordinary glass cleaner does the trick. For me anyway.

I know some UNIONs are full of bullshit in the UK,but I didnt expect them to be so useful,such as for the clearing of the windowscreenus!

Well, it's worked for me ok. Depends on the severity of the marking i guess... Thats the bit i like about cleaning the car-getting in and looking out of a perfectly clear screen! Oh, and blinding people with its reflection

Hey hey hey,

I always used to use "professional" screen clean which you can pic up (at a premium!) on any garage forecourt or H*!@~rds. However, after a short period of unemployment I was forced to shop at the evil-empire (Tesco) and discovered their own-brand glass cleaner.

I expect and invite any of you with morals to spit in my face for admitting such blasfemy but the stuff has never let me down. So long as you don't apply too much and remove any heavy deposits with kitchen towel before polishing with an absolutely clean soft-cloth, it is streak free.

Rice vinegar is good, especially on the wiper blades themselves.
