The "intercooler" badge?

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

The "intercooler" badge?

Post by 480s partner » Mon Mar 12, 2007 8:59 pm

I wonder... did volvo use in some other model series (200,300,700,900) a rear badge saying "intercooler"? Perhaps it could be possible to buy one, cut the "intercooler" part and glue it to the bottom of our "480 Turbo"? Just a thought...

yes, the 200 and 700 series had them. At least, here in Holland that is...

Intercoolers arent all that exciting though.. Same as a catalyser. I removed that badge - it annoyed me!

yeah its like ' this car is nice and sensible, it knows how to keep its charge temps nice and low' interesting to nerds like me, but to your average motorist 'turbo' is much more evocative. i'd be interest to see the badge on a 480 just to see tho...

Me too! I think I am going to give it a try. If I manage anything visually pleasing (factory look...) I will post the results.

Here it is. It took me a while but I finally managed to pull the job.
Sorry for the picture quality, it was the best shot I could take.

Don't dislike it being there, but if it was under the light on the rear as opposed to on the tailgate, that would be in keeping with the Catalyser badges.

looks pretty good, im jealous of your non-pink red paintwork and those clusters more than the badge tho. still, doesnt look out of place :-)

i feel i must also comment of the pretty clusters!

I quite like it, and i agree it looks pretty standard.

Since us humans are all about symmetry, can you post a picture of the whole back of the car for curiosity?

@owen080808: The paintwork was starting to look a little pinkish on some panels but then I used some turtlewax red polish and it became red again!

@piper1st: I have the original picture of the back of the car (which I used to cut and paste the one I posted) but since the car is stored in a garage and the cover was only partially taken out it doesn´t look very good, as there are lots of light reflections from camera flash and no symmetry at all. Still, I will try to post that.

@Darren: Thanks mate. That was my intention, try to make it like volvo would have done it, I suppose.

@JohnTurbo: Well, I can´t deny that. It was my source of inspiration. It just looked sooooo right to me that I wanted the same.

@pol: I have a soft spot for the 'lost' american 480's...

Catgroom,

what kind of polish should I use?

I have tried previously some glass polish but it didn´t work. The markings around the letters are still very visible.

Only a bit of petroleum gelly smeared around the letters seems to fade the marks a little untill it dries.

I am afraid to damage the badges with some unknown product.

JRT.

I own an '87 Volvo 360.

360 GL, with 'injection' in smaller letters...

Thats vintage. Anyone interested to put it on a 480?

That's a really handy tip, I thought about removing them with petrol or thinners and glass polishing the whole panel, then re-applying, maybe even respraying the badge,

But the intercooler badge looks stock, especially if you're not used to the model

:hopping:
