Rust

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Rust

Post by kirsty_2003 » Thu Jan 08, 2004 11:39 am

Do 480's rust really easily? My bf says they do and its very rare to get one with without any rust, especially since I live right next to the sea. is this true?

Mine is an 1988 but has not got a spot of rust on it.... its been over with a fine toothcomb. The wheel arches are purr-fect ;)

Do the newer models rust as bad as what the older ones are supposed too?

oooooooh dear i think there is gonna be an incident involving my car getting a bit wet inside ............... my road is kind of flooding :cryhard: its bound to get rusty now especially with the sea salt
I want a 480 :(

Hi,

they can rust as much es every other car.

Salt is a big problem, but if the car was washed every week in wintertime thats no problem.

480 rust places:

-wheel arches , a known problem i think :hopping:

-inside of the trunk, look at the pic. here the rust comes from the outside !

- the upper a-style,in the corner where the frontwindow is

Keep them clean, remove the salt. I think a 17 year old car should be allowed tu rust.
I´ve seen them without rust, and i´ve seen GT´s with rust.

Very hard to notice the rust behind the wheelarches. Too much plastics in the way to see it.
This looks easy too weld?
Could someone give some experience on this?

GT stand for Grand Touring. GT is a tag reserved for the more luxurious versions. GT's had lots of options as standard :D

My 1988 has just 1 spot on the outside, lh wheelarch.
But on the inside hiding in corners it has several spot`s.
Just started working on the back-side of the car.
-under the rearwindow seal the metal was completly gone in several places.
-Behind the rear-light`s there was much rust.
-Along the hole backside of the car from left to right where two panels
are joint to much to.
For now i just cleaned everything and welded some plates under the windowseal, the rest i sealed with some kit.
Sould be dry inside, for the time being.
Think i`m going to get some new body-panels in the summer.
