Hello,
My fuel tank straps are getting rusty, in fact I can predict that they will go at some point.
I got myself some replacements from a 440 1992MY (by the way very flimsy I thought), I cross referenced the part numbers and I *think* that all the ones from a 60L tank are the same. I also *think* that the ones from a 48L tank are easily identifiable because they have a "cross member" between them to make a single H shape.
Could I ask if anyone could confirm if I'm right please?
On the point of them snapping. I wanted to know what failsafes are in place to prevent your fuel tank falling off altogether?
While I was at the scrapyard, with said straps removed. I found that I couldn't fully drop the fuel tank, it got stuck on the filler neck and also noticed that the handbrake cables run underneath it. Is this by design as a failsafe?
Thanks as usual.
Stephen

Re: Fuel Tank Strap Questions
You're correct in your assessment of the differences as well as the the things that stop the tank from dropping - Along with the likelyhood of both straps failing simultaneously through rusting is highly unlikely!
They're not interchangeable - 48l straps have to be used on a 48l tank, 60 on a 60.
Which tank have you got?

Re: Fuel Tank Strap Questions
It's a 60L in my 2.0.
Now I heard from someone else the same as I thought, I will refurbish the ones from the scrapyard, without a rush to get them fitted. Provided I can get home if one fails, then I think everything will be fine.
Thanks.
