Hello, I’m new to this forum, but for me guys, you’re the only hope left to find a piece for my car.
This summer my dad gifted me a Volvo 480, that has, however, a missing piece on the center console, where all the ac controls are.
This piece is a cover for the square housing in the frame that is occupied by the Info Centre, that in my car was not included as an optional and that was covered by this square plastic cap that is today pretty impossible to find, even in junkyards, because where I live this classic Volvo is almost extinct (the only one I ever saw is mine).
I love to have the privilege to drive such an iconic and classic car and I want to restore it as good as I can (and not have a hole in my dash…).
The fact is that now I’m far away from the car that is in a garage in my holiday house, and I can’t reach for it now because I have to work, but I really want to find a replacement piece, so I thought about 3d printing it.
I say 3d printing it because even the oem part is unfindabe (I even contacted Volvo and they said that they can’t do anything for me because this part is discontinued).
Now I’m here to ask to all of you, could anyone please provide me with the dimensions of this cover and some pictures so I can 3d model it myself and then print it to replace the old one?
I don’t know if it’s possible, but this is my last hope, even blueprints with measurements are practically impossible to get.
Thank you in advance for your help.
For other info, the part number is: 3449539.

Re: Volvo 480 centre console cover
Hi welcome to the forum!
I cannot help you with the cover, but just to let you know that any pre-facelift 440 & 460 without the infocentre will have that part. This should widen your search a bit.
Most 480s had the info centre (it was an option only on the S) so trying to find one from a 480 might be tricky.

Hi friend, I don't understand what you're talking about? You can send me a photo next to the number, or show me this spare part, if I have one, I can take measurements.
Upd: And got it, and what is the plug put there? Don't you have an info center? Does this happen? I thought all 480 have an information center, you can come up with a thread there, put a remote control from the infocenter there in case or figure out the plug the size of the hole yourself.

Why not fit an Info Centre dashboard and put your analogue gauges in the bin?
Where are you? If in the UK, you could drive to Lake’s Volvo on the A1 in Bedfordshire, get the blank out of a 440 or 460 for a couple of pounds I would have thought.

Re: Volvo 480 centre console cover
I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that a swap such as that is in fact quite an involved job to do, as the Infocentre cluster is electronically driven with sensors, whereas the basic needle version (with just temp and fuel readings) are mechanical. It simply isn't a plug and play upgrade unfortunately.jamescarruthers wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 4:11 pmWhy not fit an Info Centre dashboard and put your analogue gauges in the bin?
I seem to remember someone wanting to do such a swap with his 440, but gave up after realising it was harder than he first thought.

I thought you could, and just needed to make sure the plug colours match, the fuel tank size is the same and the SRS status the same? If the ambient air temperature sensor missing, this can be added easy enough although I don't know if the wiring is there.. I'd be on the hopeful side.WillC9303 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 10:16 pmI may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that a swap such as that is in fact quite an involved job to do, as the Infocentre cluster is electronically driven with sensors, whereas the basic needle version (with just temp and fuel readings) are mechanical. Also, 440/460 can come with mechanical speedometer. The sensor in the gearbox would need to be added.
A 480S has an electronic speedometer sensor, so should be plug and play on that front.
