Rust removal and protection waxoyl/underseal recomendations.

Everything that doesn't belong in the previous categories probably belongs here. Interiour (how are the seats mounted? how to remove the CEM?) and exteriour (how to replace the popup-lights shock absorbers or a door) are discussed here!

Rust removal and protection waxoyl/underseal recomendations.

Post by Tee » Thu Dec 06, 2007 12:41 pm

I want to get the underside of my 480 sorted, rust removal etc, and some underseal put on, I just called a bodyshop and they said no-one does it anymore because it's such a dirty job.

Has anyone had any recent experience of this? Any recommendations for garages in the Cambridge area who might do this?

Cheers

Thats garage speak for 'we can't be arsed to do it'. I undersealed the rear arches on the 480 after i had the wheels off and cleaned it all out. It is a bit messy, but not hard.

MHUK underseals alot, i'm sure he'd have some pointers.

get it as high up as possible, and gently steam clean the entire underneath...take off the silly plastic inner arches, and blast all those out too....make sure you clean round the lip on the arches....
then fully dry off the whole underneath....then underseal/waxyoil/ or old motor oil, whatever you fancy.....
if its exposed, paint it!!!

Get it high like Rob does. On the spitfire I used white spirit to clean it down but that's not going to happen on the 480 as it's not painted. Go with Robs idea or jet wash the underside then day around for a few dry days then wax the whole thing like I have on my 480.

I used my air compressor with wax gun and did the whole lot over a few nights.

If you need to get someone else to sort this for you then there are several companies out there that will do this messy job for you.
