Post by V480TI » Wed Apr 12, 2006 1:44 pm

normally 195/55 r15 but someone said you can put 205's on but they must have the same heigt .

Waht tyresize is he speaking then ? maybe 205/50 r15 ?!?

And is it possible with 4 cm lowering and yellow Koni's ?!?

The second number is the hight as a percentage of the width (1st = width/2nd = height as % of width/3rd = radius/4th = speed rating).

Make sure the Speed Rating is at least H (130mph)as the next one down is only 118mph max.

So for example, on my ES this week I've gone from a 185/65/R14 H to a 195/60/R14 H.

Reason being if I stuck with a '65' the tyre height would be 65% of 195 instead of 65% of 185 making it higher and throwing the speedo etc out aswell.

So the wider the tyre (in your case 205) the lower the second number needs to be as otherwise you'll be going higher aswell. So 205/50 would sound about right.

Hope that helps!

Stu.

Can't help you there sorry amigo. The tyre will fit on the rim, but as for it fitting on a lowered car I have no idea sorry. Just looking at your spring post, if your getting scrubbage with 195's surley you'd expect it to be worse with even bigger tyres?

I had them and was pleased, nicely progressive, but with taurus rims and original tyresize (195/55/r15V) scrubbing on rear wheel arches with 4 normal weight persons.

Who are you quoting there Stu?

I would have recommended 205/50's or 45's if it's been dropped 4cm too. Gives you more space to play with and looks better IMHO.

when you calculate the original tyresize to the other tyre size:

195/55R15 187.08cm round the wheel
205/55R15 190.54cm round the wheel,

its a different of 1.85%, the car would drive a little bit harder in 5th gear 2000 rpm. not a big deal to worry about!

when you take:

195/55R15 187.08cm round the wheel
205/50R15 184.1 cm round the wheel.

its a different of -1.59%, the car would drive a little bit slower in 5th gear 2000 rpm.

when i had to make a chose i prefere the 205/55R15, just because the car would make less rpm than the other size.

http://www.meganecoupe.nl/tundes2/faq/b ... lator.html , use this dutch link to re-calculate the tyresize.

ask a tyrefarmer of its possible to put 205/50R15 or 205/55R15 on the same rims where you now have 195/55R15 on it now.

i hope this will help.

Taurus and Vesa both take 205's.
