Cheap tyres - where can i get some?

Post by reynolds_p1 » Fri Sep 23, 2005 12:32 pm

After a set of 4 budget ones for me turbo: anyone rcommend somewhere cheap around derby/midlands or sheffield areas? or anywhere that delivers nationally?

I need either 185/55/r15 or 195/55/r15

only had a couple of quotes so far but about £80-95 per tyre = too much for me!! :(

(wheels are (non volvo) 8-inch wide -suggestions as to which width tyre?! 185's or 195's?)

Also what speed rating do they need to be?

Cheers, Adam

Hmmm, could be tempted to go for 50's intread then, but then ill have to lower the car cos it will just look a little bit too much of a gap... ;)

Why are 55's so bloody expensive?!!!

mmm. thanks for that - I need new tyres - all 4 soon :(

Falken GRB FK 451 205/50 R16 Y at £60 each seems one of their better deals :)

Anyone want to comment?

I ran Falken's on the 17s on the 480 before it went away, but I don't know which ones - they were great :)

here at my local dealer 195/15 are arround 35€ per tyre and today he told me that he got an offer for a complete alloy wheel with tyre for little bit more than 40€ ... think this is quite cheap ... probably going to have some new alloys for the next summer then :)

Well, without wanting to incur anyones ire.... FWD and the fact that it's the only car I've done a 180 spin in. Didn't have a clue until I was the other way around. I'm not going to get dragged into a FWD v RWD v 4WD argument other than to say, RWD gives you more warning and 4WD, well... nuff said.

Those Falkens were fine in the wet when they were new ;)

Anyway, the ones I mentioned above are aparently rated very good in the wet - so they are obviously diff ones.

:)

yep

Also try mytyres.co.uk - they and blackcircles seem to have very good prices, depending on what size you're looking at... worth comparing, got a very good price on Toyo Proxes there a few weeks ago.

And you say RWD gives you more warning. I did a track day recently in the wet. The RWD Super 7's, and BMW's were oversteering all over the show, back ends all over the place. The BMW's actually had to stop racing as it was too dangerous for them to risk it, especially as a few of them kept spinning off, and one even rolled it and wrote the car off.

Yet the 480 held the racing lines well and even though i have significantly less power, I could still run circles round them. And this is on standard, cheap, semi bald Pirelli P6000 185's, not fancy rubber.

I'm not having a go, and i'm sure you're a good driver, but perhaps the 180 spin you found yourself in was driver error, and not mechanical...
