I just parked up in Plymouth last night after driving down and happened to glance at one of my front tryes, noticing a lovelley gouge of rubber missing from it about a 5p coin in size. I shall refrain from repeating my words at the time, but needless to say I was thanking my lucky stars given that I'd just driven down here between 70 and 90mph. Worse still I was driving like a tit on Saturday, at a speed I don't care to mention on here, and dread to think what could have happened.

Anyhow the spare is now on (and looking awful), but I can't get a decent set of tyres here for a reasonable price, nor even one to get me home cheaply!

The car needs a new set of boots anyhow, so I am going to order them in the hope after limping home @ 50 mph max they will be waiting for me.

I am quite set on the idea of a set of Toyo Proxies, I have heard little but good about them, does anyone have any comments to add on this? Does anyone know the main difference between the T1-S and T1-R's?

As for size, I'm on 15" Vesa alloys, but 55 rated tyres seem unnecissarilly expensive. 50 height tyres will fit without problems I assume? And they make the handling better as I understand?

The other factor is the width, is it worth another Â£15 per tyre to go for 205's instead of 195's? Again are these going to fit the car ok?

BTW: It's all fairly standard in terms of the suspension, not lowered or anything if that makes a difference, although I think the plan was to lower it eventually (sensibly as I am keeping the Vesa's).

I'm running 195/55/15's all round. On the front i've got T1-S's and on the back i've got T1-R's. Each pair cost Â£100 including fitting (i bought the fronts 6 months previous to the rears) Although they are not as long lasting as some makes, the grip is really good. I don't know if the T1-S is being replaced by the T1-R or the T1-R is being sold alongside the T1-S but the only difference i can see is the tread pattern.

I know one is replacing the other and hence the reason why one is cheaper than the other as they are selling them off.

As for dropping down the profile to a 50 this won't have too much of an effect. As its only a small reduction your speedo will hardly be out

The only bad thing i have heard about the toyo's is that their tradwear is crap and they come very unbalance once worn.

I've heard Falken are good value for money... haven't looked into it tho... just food for thought.

And yeah... drop to 50's

Not my 1st choice, I had them and I got major wheelspin everytime it rained.

now on Kumho which are much much better (imho)

dude you need UNITY TYRES in BITTON (just past longwell green)(they are trade but will sell to public on cash only sales)and be amazed at like about Â£70 for 4 nankang's v rated!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers for all your help with this one. Actually due to a need to replace them in PLymouth, I went for a set of Yokohama A539's in 195 50 R15 Form. Very happy, braking/Grip and general stability is much improved. Under Â£200 with full balancing and aliginment.

Wasn't able to get Toyo's, but I have heard mostly good about both so was not concerned.

Will check out that place, my brother needs some new tyres now too.
