Depends if its a pre or post 93 car
the springs are put in different
on a <93:
jackup the rearend so both wheels are of the ground
take out the rubber bumpstop on the bottom of the spring.
this rubberstop holds the spring in place
then take a big screwdriver and force the spring to the left or right.
and it is loose

on a >93
on the bottom there is a plastic cap that holds the spring and the bumpstop is situated at the top
this plasic cap holds the spring here.
force the cap loose and remove the spring

I spent ages trying to remove the rear springs on my >93 480 using coil compressors and eventually gave up. On my previous ('89) 480 it had been incredibly simple. Mr CatGroom showed me a way which made it much easier though, and didn't even require the coil compressors. Simply remove the shock absorber, and unbolt the radius arm at the from the front end. The radius arm will drop down (still held at the back) and the spring is easy to remove. The drop links may need to be removed too, but I can't remember!

Oh, and to remove the plastic cap, just wedge a large screwdriver underneeth it, and prise it off.
