What tyres will fit 6J X 14"?

Springs, shock absorbers, wheels. Questions about this can be asked in this category.

What tyres will fit 6J X 14"?

Post by Anton_K » Wed Jul 13, 2005 11:34 pm

As I wrote in an earlier thread, I´ve bought a set of Lyra alloys :D
They are 6J X 14" ET35 and the recommended tyre size(according to the "accesories wheel page") is 175/65R14.
How wide tyres can be put on them and how would it affect the handling?
I made a search, and found out that many tyre companies make for example 205/60R14, 195/65R14 tyres.

Just an idea, how would it be with lets say 200/65 at the rear wheels and 185/65 at the front wheels?? Is this a bad idea? :)

200 tyres don't exist.

My taurus wheels are also 6J and 195 and 205 tyres fitt perfectly on them, so it should not be a problem for you're lyra wheels ;)

Okey, good to know
205 rear 195 front surely looks good..have you noticed any disadvantage with your setup?
What about the height? I´m on standard shocks and springs. Maybe 60/65?

No disadvantages, only one funny thing, because in the rear I have the 205 and upfront 195, in the snow it can be tossed around a bend like it is a RWD car :)

205 tyres in the back look very big, when standing behind the car :)

Height compared the the 175/65/14 it would come to 205/55/14 and 195/55/14

Suppose the RWD thing is a good one  and with 205 and upfront 195 it kind of looks like one.

Thanks for the advice, seems like a very good site :)

I don't think you are going to find 205/55/14 very easily.

personally I think 185/60r14H is the best suited to that wheel size

You´re right, 205/55R14 is tricky to find and 185/60 is propably a very good choice..but I´m tempted to try out something little different. Could end up with: "Why didin´t I listen to MatBat  "

Anyway, one intresting thing I found out was, that Pontiac Fiero GT 1985 originally had 215/60R14 tyres on 14x6 alloys.. I think it looked good because in that way there wasn´t too much empty space in the wheel arches.

Would 215/60R14 fit in the 480 rear wheel arches? and what about the front arches, 205/60 or 195/65?

wow that year went fast!

Anyways....

Anyone thing having continental 185/55/15 on the rear and Toyo Proxy T1R 195/55/15 on the front will cause a problem.

205/60 is mad to sit on a 6" rim, i have 195/60 with no problems.

Do you also have Lyras? 205(/60) is no problem on 6", 205/55 would have been closets to stock, as I think 195/55 is on 14"
That 60 just gives the interior a break.

Soon changing to 15" Vegas and 195/55 tyres :)

Mvh.
