I hit a large pothole the weekend and noticed the rear of my 480 was suddenly very unstable, pulled over and noticed the rear Panhard rod had actually snapped midway, Inspection did not show the rod was rusted and the break was clean
Managed to get home at slow speed but alas i have been unable to find a new rod - local Volvo dealer gave me part No - 3419865 but now unavailable from Volvo
Tried searching the internet but again no luck so can anyone offer advise regarding this part or even have one for sale new or secondhand, i have searched the local scrapyards but no 480S in stock
Bushes are available so a good secondhand rod would be fine, dare i say it, DO YOU THINK A WELDED AND SLEEVED ROD WOULD PASS THE MOT?
Any help or advise would be appreciated as i am as you can imagine off the road

Re: Pothole damage - Panhard rod
rear panhard rod will also be shared with the 440/460,
I'm assuming the left to right not the pair at top running front to back?
if you had the pukka bushes and decent welder no reason why your panhard rod would not be as good as the Volvo one , especially as your one broke!
but a 'spliced' one is a fail so you need new steel tube for the bushes and a section of steel tube , unless you put the splice 'inside' and then plug weld through the old tube. . . . ., very grey area if not a downright 'fail'
I'm sure there are aftermarket 'adjustable rods available' no idea of price etc
quick google suggests that they are available for about £50 from 4x4 guys, so you need an idea of the total length you need and make a few phone calls, eg some of suzuki are pretty small and similar track so you might be lucky if looking for volvo parts don't help?
you could ask Arthy, I think he might have a spare?
not good practice to double post but really this would be better in 'wanted'?

Re: Pothole damage - Panhard rod
As Alan has already said, a welded rod would fail...... sort of.
if your sleeve fitted the entire length of the rod and was welded at the eyelet ends, there's no way to tell it's repaired!
Good second hand one would probably be the best solution.
