I found this almost to be true Vins!

I managed to get 85000 miles from a set of Michelin Pilots on the rear on this Turbo!

Not,I might add,the bald rears that were on it at Wales either!!

most of the time they only roll
that 30% of the front max brakepower doesnt do that much
and what 300 kg loading in the boot... wont wear ehm is it

I have upgraded from the stock 14 to 15 inch wheels. Got some 7 spoke alloy's for cheap. I bought an interesting tire. They are Called Marangoni Zeta Linea. Amazing tire at a very competitive price. Made in Italy.

Super Sticky, in wet or dry. :D

Ok to bump this thread...

Looking to buy some tyres really soon as I got my mum to commit to buying me a new set of front tyres for my birthday when I need them.

A lot of names have been thrown around:
Martin keeps on about Kumho, I found these but which ones do you use?
Also there are toyo tyres, I can get the Toyo CF 1 for about £45 per tyre (fitted)

I need this size 185/65 R14 86H (current tyres)
So am pretty limited and can't get any super duper tyres like most of yours due to my small rims and really would like the cost to come below £50 per tyre including fitting etc.

Cheers,

Ian

PS. I think I will probably buy from blackcircles (to include fitting) or get tyres myself and then get them fitted for around £10 each

185/60R14 is also OK to put under it. I think there's also a bigger choice in this size.

Whats the difference between 60 and 65 what does that number relate to?

Cheers

Ian

PS. Sorry for being such a novice

profile as a percentage of width....ie 195/50 R15 will be 50% of 195mm.

= 97.5mm profile.

Cheers for that JT - I love being such a novice.

So as I only want to change the front tyres I better stick with 65 then?

Just need to find out what tyres I should get, as a student longer lasting is better than performance, though good grip and performance as well is ideal (atho i know that you normally get one or the other...)
Looks like Kumho, P6000, Toyo CF1's or something else if someone can recommend any I have missed off.

Obviously if i can get them delivered and then fitted at a local centre then thats just as good as blackcircles - or anything that does it all in one :)

Cheers

The Michelin MVX was very good, but I dont think the Energy replacement suits the 480 very well.
Bridestone RE720 is also available in that size (185/65R14)

I always get my tyres from here. They are a Kumho specialist and the tyres rock and are cheap! http://taunton-tyres.co.uk/

I used to buy the ecsta directional jobbies but this time went for the solus and after about 100 miles, i'm very happy :)

As for fitting, moet tyre places should do it for about 5/6 quid a wheel. Phone about!

I was running goodyear eagle f1 on the 480 which were great and gripped until there was nothing left and i mean nothing. They only last like 4k on the front and all the tracking and balancing was spot on so would never go there agai.

Had Proxys on a ZX and it used to go sideways in the wet if you went around any corner in the wet any faster than a snails pace. All the bushes and shocks were fine and the car wasn't crabbing.

Had goodyear nct 5 on the t5 which rad out in 5k (dont know how much they had done when we got it) changed them for dunlop sport 01 which were grippy and lasted 12k (on the front). We then swopped all four for Michlin Pilots exalto Pe2 which are just astounding in all conditions even snow.

The pool car had continentals on which were ok but nothing to shout about so they to have now been changed for michlin pilots exalto Pe2 and have had the same effect. They were admittly quite bad when first fitted but once bedded in are pretty unstoppable. They make me feel safer.

The rangerover had some cheap powerguards on which were terrible on/off road and in the snow so these have been changed for Bronco Grizzly Claws which are so noisey on the road but off the road and in the snow they are unbeleivibly good.

My advice is to buy the best tyres that your budget allows but just remember that those black bits of rubber is all that keeps you on the road and is your life really worth £10 you might save per tyre for a less superior make. The best thing you can do is check all the tests on the idvidual tyres and hope for the best

Is there a site that has a lot of figures and tests for these tyres etc.

Obviously I understand what you mean about them being the only thing connecting me to the road and I know my budget is limited but £50 a tyre should be able to get me some ok ones :)

I am leaning towards the Toyo as they are what I have had my eye on before - though not the Proxes, see my previous post ;)

Cheers

I am running Bridgestone Potenza RE720 195/55R15 84V
checked their site and it's out of production.Mine will last another 2 years
with regular usage, if only no punctured and non-reparable!
Toyo proxy T1R look good, remind me a bit of Pirelli 5000 series( the V shape that is)

Couldn't really find anything useful on tyre.com but had a look at the bottom of mytyres.co.uk and it took me here: http://www.tyretest.com/

Will do a bit of browsing now :)

Thanks again all

==============================

List Now Stands at: (for my size: 185/65/R14 H)
Toyo Proxes CF-1
Federal SS-535 (Seem to get great reviews and good usage)
Kumho Solus KH21

mytyres gives a good resource as to finding reviews and info regarding the tyres, but I think I'm going to buy through blackcircles to get it all in one, see what my local garage has to offer in my size, or see how much they charge to fit a tyre, so I can get them delivered etc :)

Also mytyres seem to have this

Cheers

Whats best?

a) 195 width good brand
b) 205 width medium (not quite budget) brand

I'm guessing the 195, but would like the look of wider wheels :)
