What tyres do you all have?

Springs, shock absorbers, wheels. Questions about this can be asked in this category.

muddyfox470, any particular reason your sticking to 185/65?

How about some Falken ZE512, 195/60?

I fitted four new corners of this make over Summer (I changed from 185/55) and they have turned out to be a better rolling tyre than I expected. Low road noise and have proved pretty good in the wet and dry. I can't comment on wear yet as I've only done about 6k on them, but still plenty of life left. That said, I have 15" wheels, but I can't see that making much difference?

^ Anytime I've searched for tyres this website has been the cheapest. They've got an excellent price on the Falkens plus when I ordered they had them shipped to Northern Ireland for £7... Any other place was looking upwards of £35.

Now that is interesting...

I could get all 4 corners for less than £150 (fitted), as obviously I'd have to get all 4 tyres fitted if I wanted to change the size, but still that extra £50 doesn't seem too bad :)

Does the extra width not affect the wheels at all? I'm tempted but haven't really read up on reviews of Falken. As people have said it's best to get some pretty good tyres.

Anyway my 2 rear tyres are both in good nick that's why I see it a bit of a waste of changing all 4 tyres at once.
Any other views on this?

Ian

PS, What falken tyres do you have Darren?
PPS. It really has rattled my basket that, but I would be tempted to get the Toyo CF1's all around: http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php? ... 0s400p6820 for a little extra - I can't find any reviews/more info on the falken tyres

Ian, I have fitted the Falken tyres I recommended above. :)

I haven't had any problems with the extra width. The tyre is ever-so-noticeably chunkier fitted, but that is nor good or bad, just personal preference. I personally prefer chucky tyres. Hopefully I won't be needing tyres for a good while yet, but I will be going for these again.

I searched online again and the general opinion is very good - they are rated between 3.5 and 4 star. What more could you ask for at the price!?

How much tread is left on your rear tyres? If there's good life still in them and your happy with your current rubber then it might be more economical to just replace the front tyres to match the rears!

I use Continentals-£90 a corner but £50 to me!! ;)

I used to use Michelins til a nice man persuaded me Continentals were better (lets face it, they use 'em on XKRs for a reason!) And when we put a set on my boyfriends Escort ( i never thought i would say this) the handling improved my 100%!

I have some Powermax wheels, cheapos which are probably made of recycled condoms, and surprisingly they are actually pretty hard to wear down; I've done a RWYB and an airfield handling day and I've still got a lot of tread left.

Unfortunately, in anything but bone dry conditions, my car is the ultimate scrabble wagon! :D

Gonna buy them through blackcircles.com as I have a couple of vouchers to use :)

I need new tyres soon and really like the Kumho Ecstas I have at the moment.

Cheapest online price I have found so far is just shy of £42 a tyre. I can get them supplied and fitted at my local place for £56 a pop though - is it really worth me buying online?

No, I wouldnt bother, and I love saving the pennies! By the time you hve paid for someone else to pop them on, and possibly p&p etc, then you may have paid more than your local garage! :dunno: Plus its more convenient, you can just go down and get them fitted instead of waiting for delivery and that...

Last year I had 4 Fulda Carat Progresso tyres mounted.
Today I discovered the front ones were worn to 3mm! I covered about 10,000km but certainly not more the 15,000km with them.
Bit disappointing.
The rear ones are virtually new, 7mm.
after over 10 years parted with the 1995 Volvo 480 ES 2.0

I have 185/60/14 yet, but from two other producers.

And 185/60/14 from Fulda isn't the same like 185/60/14 from Yokohama :D

I will be changing a tyre to new ones, maybe I will purchase wider size
