Springs, shock absorbers, wheels. Questions about this can be asked in this category.

what lowering springs?

Post by chris-durham » Sat Aug 26, 2006 12:50 am

Hi guys,

ive just found that my 480 turbo has a snapped front coil spring.... it seems to have snapped near the bottom.
Anyway. What better opertunity to fit a set of lowering springs!!! :D
As ive a very small budget... what kits do you guys recomend? as ive never fitted lower springs before is there anything else i need to take into account? i read in an old post someone bought Jamex springs...

Is it ok to leave the standard dampers in short term with lowering springs?

Cheers guys..

Hi Chris!

Yes you can leave the standard dampers on mate.Change the top mounts too though if they are in any way split. It makes a big big difference!

Persoanlly Id avoid PI and Jamex, unless you dont mind a very hard ride.PI do sag about 10mm too, quite quickly!

Dan the 480 Man I think has found the perfect solution in a set of KYBs from ebay at a silly £35 a set. They make the springs for Subaru, albeit not the same design.Much better levels of comfort and handling becomes ermmm far more fun!

Just use coil spring compressors to get the old ones off,I dont use them when installing new ones.It makes the rears so easy if you also undo the front of the radius arms then drop the whole arm down. When fitting new rears you can just place them in with one hand!Lovely!

If its minimum lowering youre after though,Lesjofors springs are a current favourite.I know Van Der Graaf (Rohan) and richmann_1 (Rich) are running these now.Similar to standard I hear but lower your car subtly and are not broken!!!!!

Good Luck.PM me if you need assistance mate.Ive done untold suspension swaps on these now!

Steve

Good Luck!

Hi Steve, thanks for the info.

I was aiming for quite a firm ride and a decent drop. so the firmer the better :D Will have to have a close inspection of the rears though as theres a really loud creaking coming from there each time the car moves...

Anyone who could put prices on it. Here on the mainland they cost around 190 € ... but as I know enough people comming ovre to the lincoln meeting it could be wise to ask them to bring over a pair of springs if they are cheaper there ...

Bakke, which springs are you refering to?
The KYB you can't get anymore on Ebay. :(
The Lesjofors are about £85, what's that, about 125 euro.

@ Chris

No probelm, pleasure! If you dont mind hard,Id go for Jamex as PI do sag as I can vouch for.You end up with a soon-to-be 50mm drop and no comfort with PI.
