oversteer?

Does your 480 have tracking-problems? Does your car pull to one side? Or is your steering wheel vibrating? Read the posts in this category to find out what's going on.

oversteer?

Post by clubman_dan » Thu Feb 02, 2006 7:17 pm

a couple of days ago i was going round a roundabout, when i pulled away i got some wheelspin even though i wasnt pushing it so i took it slow (probably about 20mph) and as i came towards my exit i felt the car go light and suddenly realised that my rear end was trying to ovetake my front!
luckily i managed to catch it and still got my exit  (felt quite smug afterwards lol )
it wasnt particualrly wet, perhaps a little bit greasy, being new to the 480 i was wondering wether this is common? i thought it would understeer more being FWD and front heavy??
do any of you guys experience this?
cheers
DAN :)

Yep, back can go before the front if you are off the power.

i was reading the manual which says that the car is designed to have a tendency for understeer, the wierd thing is it has only done it once for me! it either sticks like a limpet or the back end tries to overtake the front, my mate has notice the exact same thing with his! no lifting off, just goes  can be scary if your not ready. i wonder if its worn bushes or something which has caused it??

Went paintballing at the weekend with some mates at the weekend and we had a bit of a convoy. We had to do a couple of u turns and both times I attempted them relatively quickly and got tonnes of oversteer - great fun!

On a slightly better note my mate has a 1.8 focus (only a couple years old) which is quicker than my car on paper - First of all I blew him away at the lights and secondly twice he tried to overtake me and I just put my foot down and I pulled away from him both times all the way up to 130 when we both maxed out hehe :D
