What Is This Bit?
Hello People
What is this? It's mounted forward of the rear shock absorbers and connected to the rear anti-roll bar. Its about 6" long and it has a set in it. It's bush bolted on the top and is connected to the anti-roll bar with a swivel type bolt to allow movement.
It's for my Dad's benefit-you would know the bit if you saw it, it's just hard to try and describe it!
Cheers in advance,
Dan

My first guess was the droplinks too. MHUK's are the fronts in that particular post-would the rears be a slightly different shape? He drew me a quick sketch so i knew what he was on about, and they're almost wavy, if you know what i mean.
I'll get him to check that post out-if it's not (but i think it is), i'll get a picture sorted tomorrow night.
But as Ally also stated in his post in that topic,
Cheers for the replies!

Thats what he's trying to eliminate. At first he thought he had bought some faulty shocks (gas) so he took them off and exchanged them for more Gas ones. Knocking was still there. He then took them back and got some oil filled shocks-much much quieter and much better-but he still has this knocking, and the droplinks (assuming thats what it could be) is where his detective work has led him. It's taken months to get this far, and it's slowly driving him mad. Could it be the ball joint making this knocking, or are the droplinks known to cause this sort of sound when they're shot? I wouldn't have thought that they would have made any noise at all... Whats a god way to find out if the ball joint is knackered? Will there be a little sideways 'play' if i wiggle the wheel?Ally wrote:Surely unless the ball joints on your link rods are f'ed new ones won't make any difference - any car I've had lets you know when they need done by a characteristic knocking when going over bumps or cornering.

Dan/Dan's Dad!
The only way I could get rid of this bloody irritating rattling with my last Turbo (which had new arb links) and good shocks was to tighten the top bolts of the shocks extremely tight. So tight in fact that any tighter would require a bar on the end of the ratchet/bar etc.
It did sahut it up straight away though.I have always had this trouble on TFC and shortly will not be replacing the shocks but levering the inner wheel arch plate out a tad and inserting a slim metal plate toput extra load on the top of the shock mounting when tightened.A bit pikey I guess, but in theory would work........

Knocking has officially been cured!
It was a fault with the shocks. The hole that the bolt goes through at the top of the strut was a *tiny* bit bigger than it was supposed to be, so no matter how tight the bolts were done up, the hole was knocking against the bolt. It was cured with some new gas shocks by a company called "Gabrielle" or something like that... Couldn't believe it, never even thought of that!
Cheers for the help though people...
