knocking sound from the front.

Post by martinholmesuk » Sun Sep 25, 2005 6:19 pm

fook!

Mine has started to make a knock from what sounds like the front!

I drive off and it bangs then nothing until I slow down or pull off really quick.

Ideas?

I'm going to state my normal "odd knock noise" suggestion.

Engine mount. Front or rear? Well that's for you to find out, but I suggest the rear.

Haynes suggests a worn CV boot or joint if it is a knocking at slow speeds.
This is haynes though...

Both ball joints are good, I checked when I replaced the wish bones. They also look ok.

Another rear odd thing is..... and it's going to scare me....

when I pull off it feels like the hand brake is on. It's like the car is being held then released. Evil force maybe?

It could be pretty much any moving part at the front of the car, not incredibly helpful I know, but true,.
All you can do is jack the thing up with the wheels free to turn and have a good jggle of everything.

Could be the pads sticking in the carrier/reaction frame

Mart,

Just finally sorted out my knocking,so thought I'd post ASAP for your benefit mainly.....

Just took both front wheels off.Okay, everything I had done up tight when all parts were fitted.

1 week on......both strut bolts-loose,both sides.Top mounts-a little bit loose.Ball joint nuts/bolts to wishbone-very loose!!!!!!!Anti roll bar links-haklf a turn loose!Ball joints-okay funnily!!!!

I would check again mate.

Good Luck

I've now exactly the same problem.

It think it's an engine mount, however I couldn't undestand if it was the rear engine mount or the front right engine mount.

That noise makes me crazy afte 10 seconds in city with window opened... :badmood:

Thanks
