Bushes?

Post by martinholmesuk » Sun Sep 11, 2005 8:55 pm

Is it worth changing all the bushes?

Just replaced the wishbones and it's made a MASSIVE difference, sooo much better. (maybe that answers the questions)

I also have new front shocks / front drop links. :D

yeah, but she won't thank you for it.... you'll be driving along quite happily and suddenly a spring will leap through the wing, into the windscreen and take you out. Why? Because she hates to see you smile... Vader is evil.

Well Martin i've changed alot of the bushes in the quest to cure the steering pull to the left. It has made quite a difference to the handling along the way so i'd say if the bushes look a bit worn and mis-shapen then change em. I've changed:-

Wish bone bushes x4 (Made a hell of a difference)
Trailing arm bushes x4
Radius arms x2 (They only sell the whole arms)

I've also done all the drop links which has smoothed out the bends. I've looked into putting polly bushes on the antiroll bar mounts but there are no off the shelf parts and none of the universal ones come even close. When i get round to putting sports shocks on i'll put polly bushes on the mounts and replace the front shock top swivel mounts.

Regards Edd.

I'm glad this post has come up again, I was going to ask about wishbone bushes.
I'm looking for poly bushes, there's one company that make them for pretty much every Volvo except the 400 series! (they even do the 300 series for gods sake!!!) Does anyone know where I can get them from?

Yeah Scandicar in PL ;)
But problem is that poli-bushes are so strong that your wishbone can get bend.
I'll change mine on poli but will have to drive carefully.

This is it brasco....theres too much movement in the wishbones for poly as i have said before. It'd be damned hard to fit them too!!

Hey amigos, as follow on from MOT faliure thread I need to replace the o/side front lower wishbone bush.

Volvo have informed me on the AUTO model only this is actually different to the other 3 bushes (and probably the reason why only this particular one failed and not the other 3).

Part no. V03432664 £25.40+vat - as opposed to the other 3 standard ones Part No. V03411810 £11.80+vat.

They advised I just swap the whole wishbone which includes the 2 bushes cost £86+vat (V03421396).

Any suggestions plse?

Stu.

I got him to double check as thought it wierd aswell JT - he said it's on the Auto models only. Showed me on his VADIS system (wish I had one of those - blow up pics - click on the pic of the part you want and gives you all info - zoom in and out - I was like a kid on an Atari woody for the 1st time again!).

Thanks for the offer, but should be able to give it a bash (with hammer prob!) down here. Will PM you if change mind though as reckon your only around 1.5hrs max away and extra advice always gratefully recieved. My old black Turbo came from Colne funnily enough so know the way!

I saw a great way of inserting new bushes on Wheeler Dealers! Get a long bolt with a big washer and put it through the mddle of the bush. Then push it through the hole you want the bust in and put another washer over the bolt on the hole side so it goes bolt head, washer, bush, wishbone, washer, and then whack on a nut. Add a little washing up liquid on the bush and then get a spanner on the end of the bolt and just tighten the nut until the the bush eventually pops into place! Thought Bushes were pretty hard to change until I saw that!!!

Stu....To get the old ones out...hammer a screwdriver in there and prize away. It knackers the old bush totally....but gets em out in about 10 seconds.
New ones....line em up, chamfer leading edge of the tabs....and just squeeze them in with a bench vice...alternating sides. 30mins of a job.

Great idea - where's the link please?

Will see how I'm fixed - might just end up with a photo of me throwing the bushes in the bushes!
