Grinding Stearing

Post by piper1st » Mon Jun 13, 2005 2:32 pm

I'm hoping someone can offer a suggestion for my first problem,

I am now a prowd owner of my first 480 ES 1.7i and it's make some low pitched noises when parking (like a squeeky shock). this problem doesn't seem to happen when going over 20mph. I've checked the power steering liquid and it seems fine. The car still steers fine, i'm just worried i'm damaging something?!

any suggestions or solutions welcome ....

Ross

p.s. if anyone had some luck with getting hold of new dials (speedo etc) please let me know.

The power steering can be generally whiney. Is it not just noisy power steering?

powersteering is a pomp with a constant flow.
When a steering movement is maked the oil flows in that direction, which could give a sound.
If the steering is turned to the end the presure would bocome that high the internal emergencie overflow will open so the excesive flow can escape what will give an even louder sound.
There is no problem if that sound is heard.

it would be a good idea to totally flush (bleed) all the old power sterring fluid away this is meant to be done just the brake fluid is meant to be replaced (totally0 every 2 years i think, though quite often the fluid is 10 years old and just top up for brakes and especially steering.

cheers FELYX (pressure bleed kits by GUNSON cost about £12 and are easy to use)
140mph for £175 just test the brakes
